My dad was in the Home Guard 1940-44. He loved to watch the original series when it was being broadcast from 1968 until his death in 1975. And to me it really was dad's army.
God, if recounting his life during the WW2 was too difficult then, given his recollection of the first world war, it must have been utterly horrific. What an admirable gentleman to be able to hold onto his humanity through that choas. I hope white feather woman got to find out what small minded bigot she was.
