Arrrgh, Ohlins Steering Damper Spacer !

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Android853sp, Jan 30, 2017.

  1. Took the steering damper bracket off to scope spacing it off the frame, so when I undid the screw holding the steering damper, the ffffing spacer came to life and dropped into the guts of the engine behind the cam belt covers. I can't see the fffffking thing so I need to get another one. Does anyone know if it is sold as a spare part or has anyone got one they don't need ? Andy

  2. 716.1.412.1A Wilf should be able to get you one :upyeah:

  3. Ordered :upyeah:. Andy

  4. if its fallen behind the belt covers andy you NEED to find it before you start it up!!

  5. Is there a gap ? I thought the 748R was the only set of belt covers that stood off the case. Andy

  6. The V shape of the engine naturally funnels dropped items under the coolant expansion tank. A cheap telescopic magnetic prodder thingy can fish most stuff out. Aldi do one for a couple of quid.

  7. I had a fish round without success. As I've got all the body work and tank off, how difficult is it to get the expansion bottle out ? Andy

  8. A pig. As long as it hasn't gone behind your belt covers into the timing pulley area, I'd just leave it if you can't find it. It'll bounce out eventually.

Your steerig damper bracket is pretty far forward, are you sure it's not in the belly pan?

  9. I wouldn't want it floating any where if the was me! I'd have the whole lot apart to find it! But that's just how anal I am about my bikes and working on other people's, I've seen what can happen when foreign objects get into places they shouldn't! Not worth the risk in my opinion mate.

  10. I agree Cookie, but if the cam covers are sealed, it's not going to get in really. If there's any gap at all, find the bugger.

I'm the same, I'd want to find it, but where can it really go? Now if I had a spark plug out at the time or the timing covers off, I woildn't rest until I found it.

  11. Yeah that's true I suppose mate.

  12. The bike is bollock naked, got no clothes at all and I still can't find it and I checked the floor :Arghh:. Andy

  13. How am I supposed to sleep after reading that??

  14. Isn't the spacer aluminium? I think the one on my 749R is so magnet no good.

  15. I'm assuming there no way it can get into the air box Andy?? Check throttle bodies and butterflies bit extreme I know but worth a check!!

  16. It can't get in the airbox or behind the belt covers, if it's gone under the coolant tank that'll be a twat to get at without lifting the airbox/throttle body assembly :( it's held on with 2 bolts on the vertical intake. It's not a difficult job to lift the whole airbox & TB's enough to get at it though, you just need to disconnect the air runners, loosen off the 2 jubilee clips on the rubber TB intakes and pop the assembly off, you'll only have to lift it an inch or 2 to get at the bolts holding the overflow tank :upyeah:
