1200 DVT Asking A Favour?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by laava, Sep 15, 2019.

  1. I would like someone to try the following please and let me know what happens?
Next time you are out for a ride, and not in sport mode, can you try slamming the throttle open, in 2-4th gear, at 2500rpm?
Because on my bike it just does the whole shuddering no power missing thing for a sec or so before it picks up. If you roll the throttle on it does not do it and it was put on the diagnostic yesterday with no faults showing. Just wondering if they all do that. Is driving me nuts.
It ran appallingly a couple of weeks ago after I washed it and after pulling a heap of plugs off to inspect and spray it ran a lot better but still has this bottom end stumble, is the best way to describe it. Thanks, Al

  2. Mine takes off likes it's arse is on fire

  3. Exhaust valve done?

  4. Exhaust valve cycling properly. I have a ducee and may give that a try as well just to see. The bike does pull like a school boy, but if you open the throttle wide open when it is under 3 k it splutters badly

  5. Rip it out it's more trouble than its worth

  6. The fuelling below 3000-3500 on my twin spark was diabolical. After I went to Hilltop, Hinckley it ran beautifully.

Maybe its the fuelling for emissions.

  7. Remapping is not an option for me here in NZ. I am trying to work through things one at a time and would like to know if anyone elses bike does this or in fact whether they all do?

  8. I can no longer do the test your asking for due to the edu work.

However, I believe it is possible to mail your ecu to Hilltop for them to install their self learning software. I realise this has practical and confidence issues.

  9. I am not sure that the ecu is at fault here. I am just trying to eliminate certain things one at a time. I know the guy in NZ who does Rexxer will not touch the DVT, the only viable option seems to be a rapid bike evo or race. Again, not sure if this would fix or worsen my current issue. I did wonder if it might have been water in the throttle fbw but I am pretty sure that would show up as a diagnostic fault.

  10. There's some interesting stories floating round the internet regarding Hilltop at the moment.

I've no view on it, but if I was looking to spend some money with them, I'd have a read at the least.

  11. Has anybody been out for a blat yet? I suppose it is winter and a lot of you lot have your bikes all tucked in?

  12. Has anyone tried this yet? Please? Trying to find out if they all do this or just mine. Cannot find a reason for it, everything has checked out. No codes thrown

  13. weather in UK has been bad (certainly in South Wales) for the last 3 weeks.....we are entering winter.... so lots of rain...

  14. If you’re opening the throttle wide at 2.5k rpm in 4th then you’re lugging the engine.

Doesn’t sound like a fault IMO. If you don’t get the “lag” in Sport then there’s your answer... the other modes soften the throttle.

  15. nope mine pulls like a train, tried it yesterday, out again in an hour

  16. It is any gear and under 3k, worse in sport because of what you said...

Ok, thanks Peter. Am hoping to find something to blame at some point... it has been running badly since January, firstly because of belt timing but now I have no idea...still very rideable but if I am tootling along following someoone and decide to overtake, then I have to make sure I am doing more than 3 k before I can use more than half throttle. And it dooesn't seem right.

  17. You shouldn’t really be lugging the engine like that TBH. Bit of mechanical sympathy needed. Sub 3k is placing a lot of strain on the engine in a high gear, the shuddering is the bike telling you to choose a more appropriate gear.

Caveat: if it’s doing this in first gear also then get your DVT checked.

  18. Well Fire3500, thanks for your input. Not sure why it is only any issue if it is doing it in 1st gear as opposed to the rest?
But I can assure you, if your bike was doing this, you would want it fixed, not to be told you shouldn't lug the engine like that. I think you may have missed the point.

  19. Well if it's doing it in 2,3,4,5 or 6th then you can change down a gear, if it's doing it in 1st then you don't have a lower option. In my experience the Testastretta engine doesn't have the same low down grunt as a Desmodue or Desmoquattro engine, and lugging the engine does produce exactly the kind of bogging down that you mention, and in Urban and Touring modes where the throttle response is dampened then that would logically be exacerbated, plus the DTC / DWC might also curtail the power as it builds to avoid any traction / wheelie.

If you're sitting in, say 3rd at sub 3k rpm and you crack the throttle then you're not going to get as clean a build in power as you would if you were at 5k, the DVT engine likes to rev...

If you feel your bike has a fault, and it's not the way you're riding it, then get the OBD checked out by a dealer or specialist. No disrespect was intended.

    Best of luck!

  20. I realise you didn't post to be disrespectful and also apologies for my response sounding a bit short!
So when I am riding around on our many twisties and you roll off into a corner and then accelerate out of it, it is very easy, esp in the lower gears, to let the revs go under 3k and then if you snap the throttle back on, which you should be able to do, the engine misses and bucks before pulling like a train above 3k. This does not seem right and I have spent an enormous amount of time trying to get this right, incl taking it the 160km plus distance to the closest ducati OBD. Now it seems it I will just have to live with it, but I was interested to see if others have this issue. This motor should pull cleanly from 2500rpm if not less even though it might be lugging, I would have thought.
My previous Monster 1200, non DVT could.
