Some may remember this photo from Guillaume's Darmah thread, of mine at a rather worrying angle of lean due to an inferior side stand. So prompted by G's fitment I bought the same item but ran into some issues when fitting. The first was that when the stand was retracted it would interfere with the operation of the centre stand. This wasn't unexpected because the stand is for bikes fitted with Conti silencers (only). I have Keihen replicas on mine and these allowed the side stand to retract further back obstructing the centre stand path. Additionally the top of the side stand leg would foul the centre stand mounting plate & the centre stand itself when it was down. It was enough to gouge a substantial groove in both - hmmmmm... I confirmed I did have the correct stand for a Darmah and after much musing put it down to poor tolerances in the original frame/centre stand manufacture. Besides it was easily resolved by filing/grinding both the leg & frame to provide clearance. Btw, I noticed the holes in the side stand mounting plate would only lineup with the engine & centre stand bolts when the bike wasn't on it's centre stand. So there's obviously some flex/movement going on. After much trial & error and 3 or 4 design failures a good old bent piece of steel plate provided both a travel stop for the stand and a mounting point for the side stand switch. And hey presto a side stand that sits the bike at just the right angle... hurrah!
Impressive perseverance. As discussed in the previous thread, when I finally fitted the equivalent side stand to my MHR with Contis, it bolted straight on and supported the bike at the proper angle. Well done. Tom.
Keeps me out of the opium dens... And now it's fitted and working fine I do use it quite a bit, but only for resting on whilst I get off & put him onto the centre stand.
That’s exactly why I needed one. To transition to and from the centre stand without feeling paranoid about dropping the bike…
