Auto Windscreens

  1. Driving back tonight, took a whack on my screen, rang insurance company and they gave me an appointment with the above even though I politely requested OEM, they stood by their guns. So, in your experience, should I use these or pay myself and go for an oem item? Any one used them??

  2. Hi Wayne
Had the same a couple of years ago on our new Evoque. The car was two months old and had to insist on OEM replacement screen fitted by Range Rover with paperwork. Wife had a bit of a battle with insurance company at the time. May depend on the age of your vechile and any existing warranty?

  4. Cheers blokes, will call them again tomorrow and push a bit for OEM , it's not a very common screen so don't want a copy (if there are any copies?) of any sorts, so will pay for original if they won't play ball.

  8. Certainly the case with my car (VW Tiguan) the cameras that are part of the lane assist need recalibrating after windscreen replacement. This needs to be done by a dealer. So if there's a third party replacement of the windscreen a dealer visit afterwards is required. If your car has a similar system you should point out to the insurer that this is a safety issue and the whole job should be carried out by someone authorised/with correct knowledge/equipment to do such work.

  9. Insurance companies always try to insist you go to their people, because they have a deal with them. But you can insist on an OEM. As said above, stick to your guns!

  11. OK, after over 2 hours on the phone to everyone from the insurance company, to the windscreen folk, to the CEO of Pilkington glass (OK, maybe not him then, but you get my point :D), they have for an extra £50 excess, permitted me to take the car to Owen's at Pangbourne for a dealer OEM replacement. Result !! :upyeah:

  13. i use an independent when the insurance company's are being awkward. they are quite literally half the price of autoglass and in my experience the workmanship is night and day.
