Hi Just wanted to ask if anyone has fitted the blip box to their 1299 and if so is it any quicker on the up shifts in race pattern than the one that comes on the bike from Ducati. Sometimes I go for the gear change and it doesn’t engage. Don’t know if it’s me not being positive enough on the shift, you can’t seem to go for two gears at once. Feed back welcome. Thanks Andy.
?! You can’t do that clutchless either. Why would you use a QS or auto blipped and try to go two gears in one shift?!
I doubt any electronic qs will enable you to shift two gears in one ignition/fuel cut cycle. In both shift directions, qs work by momentarily relieving drive tension on the transmission enabling the gear drum to move one cycle to the next gear. This happens in milliseconds while the transmission transitions between drive/drag torque.
Current IAM machine sympathy guidance dictates that you use the brakes to slow your speed and then select the appropriate gear for that speed. At a speed limit change this could mean clicking through 2 or even 3 gears. IMO, I don't and never will agree with this utter bollocks. Alternatively the OP could be talking about short shifting. Just my ideas . Andy
Sorry didn’t mean to try and go for two gears at once. Meant that it seems slow compared to one my mate has fitted to his zx10 which is really slick, now I know it could be due to it being an in-line 4 and not a twin but I just wanted to know if anyone had fitted an aftermarket auto blip and found that it is better than the oem one.
We, that makes more sense, few figures you were trying to smash down the box without going one gear at a time, i.e. Allowing it to return. Next thread 'my 1299 gearbox has packed up!' Lol Is it adjustable? Maybe the kill time needs adjusting? Lever position? Andy - I follow lots of people, many who have done/are iam and rarely see beak lights
My point precisely but examiners are marking candidates down for using their gears to slow down. Makes no sense to me but then I ride an L twin. Andy
Guidelines probably written before blippers even appeared in MGP bikes. Aren't the IAM guys who suggest neutral throttle (not zero) from tipping in through to the apex? Blippers are essentially fashion accessories on road bikes, though I do love mine for the blingage brag rights
Had no track tuition from IAM so can't answer that but the machine sympathy thing is relatively new as in the last 12 months. Having ridden a variety of bikes over the last 50 years, I see absolutely no point in a quick shifter or the more modern blipper on a road bike nor at my skill level, on a track bike. I'm not a technophobe, I really get the electronic suspension bit but I'm most definitely a clutch lever and slipper clutch man. Andy
I only ride it on track. Spoke to moto rapido and they advised checking that I am using full travel of the shift rod as this can cause missed gears so may need to adjust lever slightly.
Easy answer is ride so they can’t keep up and score you Not me mind, I’d barely keep them interested As an aside, I have almost finished off two sets of pads in 6300 miles, so suspect following me must be like I’m on a test or having the light always on...
Seriously, a quick shifter gives a man a hardon and a woman a tingle only a washing maxi shine on 1800 spin can do It’s been around a while, an old mate of mine (who could leave me behind almost at will tbh) always preached about gearboxes be8ng more than brake pads. Funny, I almost never saw a brake light
Reminds me of a funny story: I did a BikeSafe day with the cops from Leatherhead a few years ago. I was on a BMW GS and he was following me on their unmarked black Fireblade. When we stopped at the first break he said ‘Christ that thing shifts’. I said ‘Well I was trying to lose you because I felt like I was being chased by a cop’.
Are you still using the OEM rearsets? I found the lever throw was too big with them, giving me poor changes. I fitted after-market rearsets to reduce it (~35mm => 20mm). Changes are now crisper and the micro-switches in the box on the shift rod are more forcefully activated since less boot movement is required to change gear.
