Auxiliary Fuses

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by michel couque, Jul 17, 2022.

  1. Hi all.

Not Ducati related..but my auxiliary 12v outlet is currently fused with 2A fuse in main fuse board . This blows if I use a small portable air pump, so my question is can I simply put a 10A fuse there instead , or is there a wiring difference to that fuse that could overload with a higher amp being used?As you can tell I am no sparky!!

    TIA

  2. Moved thread for you

    can anyone help

  3. What bike is this for? The ST2/4 and early ST4s had a 3A fuse on the power outlets. This was subsequently upped to 20A on later models.

  4. The fuse is there to protect the circuit. So it depends on the wires. If they are thick enough you can up the fuse. Here is a guide for flexible cable.
    0.5 mm2
    3 amps

    0.75 mm2
    6 amps

    1.0 mm2
    10 amps

    1.25 mm2
    13 amps

    1.5 mm2
    15 amps

  5. It’s a Yamaha

  6. Petsmith's guide above should give you and idea, as long as there are no other items on that circuit that need protection with a lower fuse.

  7. Wire your air pump to fit your battery tender plug, that's what I did. Andy

  8. Yes that’s my conclusion too. Maybe I could use the battery charging lead with a cigarette lighter fitting for the pump. Will need to check the fuse rating on the optimate lead. Or fit another unfused lead. Seems a lot of agg for something very seldom used but on group rides a puncture is not unknown.
