1200 DVT Axel Sliders: What Is Point?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Roland_O, Apr 8, 2017.

  1. Hi,

Am wondering about ways to protect my 1200DVT from slow speed tip-overs so have been thinking about fitting axel sliders.

But I can't see how they will be any help.

Surely if one's pride and joy topples over it will break plastic parts, like the tank covers and the brush guards. Maybe if one is unlucky, then the water pump and engine bits might get damaged. Footrest hangers will take some of the load, I guess. What are the sliders protecting?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I can figure it out. Why fit sliders?

  3. Mine have the KTM logo on them... that's the only reason [emoji6]

  4. That's why.
OP - Check the cost of fork fork lowers and swingarms vs the cost of axle sliders.

  10. Dropped mine doing a 180 turn over a high kerb, 2 years ago and it ended up partially upside down. The combination of R&G axle protectors, Barkbusters and the fact my Ortlieb bag was across the back seat, stopped any damage the the actual bike or my top box, just those 3 components, plus a small scuff to the rear footrest. I couldn't actually believe I got away with a cash free, low speed drop!
