Back To Bikes

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Wylyetom, May 3, 2021.

  1. I am currently on the hunt for my dream bike, around 14 years ago when looking for a sports bike I remember going to a Ducati dealership and looking at a 748 R, the bike was beautiful and I would of bought it but a friend the following week decided to sell me his MV 750S, this too was a lovely bike but after three years and a baby on the way I had to sell up! I now find myself at the age of 41 in the position to buy another bike!! I do not ride a lot ( I do have a classic BSA) but am obviously looking for a red 748r, I decided to join the forum as I need help in knowing if their are any particular things to check?? I am after a late 02 748 and have now found an Italian imported bike, hopefully I will be able to find friendly advise on this forum to aid my journey back into bikes

  6. Hey welcome along and yes a delightful looking motorcycle.:upyeah:

Perhaps @Expat Jack is thinking of releasing his at some stage.?

  7. There do seem to be a couple on eBay at the moment, just want to make a good buy

  8. There's one on the Yorkshire Specialists web site at the moment for sale.

  9. Is that the Bike specialist?? I have been looking at it but it’s an Italian import, not sure if this makes a difference ( km instead of miles)

  10. I hadn't noticed that part regarding the details, but for some folk it has to be in MPH's when in the UK and for others it doesn't matter whatsoever as they all came out of the Ducati factory, but perhaps with different power restrictions from other markets.

  11. Italian spec is full power as is UK spec. The speedo can easily be changed for an mph one, just photo the 2 side by side when swapping as proof of the mileage/kilométrage.

Expat Jack has already been summonsed but iirc @NeilH also has one.

  12. Something like this?
    Welcome along.
Service history and provenance are everything.

  13. Thanks all, it was the bike specialist 748r on eBay that actually got me to think about getting one. They look like a reputable dealer, and although Italian the bike also looks nice, I’d rather pay a little more and not regret it

  14. Mine has mph and Kmph although I think I might need my reading glasses to see the Kmph :joy:
Good luck on your quest for one :)
