Saw the bike Mike bought yesterday. On eBay for 6k.. 1098 track trim with v5 and some road kit Nemesis TC and potentially ECU as we found a standard ECU in the box of bits... Spare wheels and discs incl phonic ring QS in box Full biturbo race suspension all round Full 70mm system with slash termis plus full standard system and cans in box Just had gearbox refresh and a service, starts on the button no rattles or smoke Paddock stands Offerred 4K, Paid £4750 in the end. Probably worth 7k in bits Makes some other bikes out there look really, really expensive Lesson for me: make a stupid low bid and see what happens.....
Aye, they're out there. I think a low bid is sometimes worth a pop, especially if the seller has been repeatedly mucked about. You sometimes take a few hundred quid less just to make the space / end the torment. Selling bikes these days is painful as so many people just PCP it or get traditional finance, so even trying to sell a bike for @ £3-4k can be hard work as people just don't have savings any more and ready cash is clearly not falling from the sky. One bloke bid me £1,800 on my R1 telling me that this deposit on PCP would get him a practically new one... well yeah, but also then £100+ a month for 36 months and a balloon payment at the end, you plank... that's a much better deal than a bike that's £3,000 all in... Great market if you're buying, bad times if you're trying to sell. The R1, which is a mega bike, just will not shift and I'm dreading trying to sell one of our SS's in the near future as it's a bit of a project and I honestly can see a fight even to get £1,500 out of the thing... which is bonkers cheap. But I know it'll be a battle. I think the days of me changing bikes like changing my socks are coming to an end as it's just too hard.
I'm sure I'll have the same with the triumph. But if you need to sell, you're stuffed a bit. Same as if you need to buy. My issue is that I always buy when I need one. That is I have no bike (or suitable bike) for an event and can't just take whatever time needed to find one. Nor do I normally have cash laying around for those 'oh, that's a bargain worth a punt ' purchases. That has changed a bit, or will when the triumph goes as I already have the gixer (once fixed) for trackdays.
Clearly it depends how desperate the seller is. I would never entertain such a low offer. Fair play to him getting a bargain all the same.
