748 Battery Drain

  1. Hi all,

Recently replaced my old Yuasa battery with a new one due to old age (7+ years). Had to leave the bike outside for about a week and unfortunately it got drenched. Turned on ignition and nothing (no neutral light, fuel pump priming etc). Connected the Optimate and it wouldn't even recognise a battery, jump started it no problem and the Optimate had the battery charged in just over 24 hours.
loaded bike into the van and when i came back to it a week later it was dead again. Repeated the above process and still on charge now.

What are the obvious places to check for whats causing the drain? All fuses or ok but need to check solenoids. I'm assuming the battery is not a dud as the last one could be left for months with no issue. There is no alarm, never had any electrical issue previous and everything performs as it should once battery is topped up.

Please help or i'll be the idiot bump starting his bike on Monday at Snetterton. Bike is a 2001 748E.

  2. You could try dis connecting the fully charged battery,to see if its a duff one.ie leave overnight then check voltage.
