After leaving the Desmo unplugged from it's Optimate for a few months, the battery is flat and not reaching a full charge. So, new battery required. Does anybody have any recommendations? Motorbatt look to be quite good.
Mo Motobatt seem to be the Marmite of batteries. People seem to love them or hate them. For about the same money, Yuasas are just quietly dependable. I went for the Yuasa. It just does it's job...
If your not going light weight then Yuasa every time - unless on a budget. Motorbatt seem to be recommended as a good Budget Battery quite a lot.
When I was looking, I found lots of reviews saying Motobatts are fab, go and buy one but an equal number saying they are rubbish, don't touch with a barge pole. Both Yuasa and Motobatt are around 50 quid.
Another vote for Motobatt, lasted much better than anything else in both my Aprilia Falco and Cagiva Elefant. When the Multi needs a new one, that's what it'll be getting. Shop around for the best price, there are some good deals around.
+1 for Hawker, if not going LiFe, the one I have in the Guzzi is an Oddessey Not sure about the size for the Desmo but these are AGM (Absorbed Glass Matt) more robust than Gel and last a long time, but yeah flippin heavy & pricey but they last a long time ODYSSEY battery - Extreme Batteries
+2 for Hawker. Had one in the SPS for years and the SS as well. Heavy but have plenty of oomph to start the beasts
I teamed my new Yuasa up with a set of HighCapacity starting cables (battery to earth, battery to solenoid and solenoid to starter motor). I also installed Iridium plugs. Now the bike starts exactly as you'd want it to, it just bursts into life. The bad news is that the cable kit came from America and so wasn't exactly cheap. However, the good news is that @Exige on here is on the process of developing UK made equivalent or better kits, so I recommend you put your name down for one
Still waiting to here from my manufacturer - I have to be patient as they usually deal with massive orders, but the good news is the 999/749 will be first. Hopefully hear this week and get the first batch on order.
For what it's worth, I have a Bosch YTX9-BS in my Suzuki, and it still seems fine after around 5 years. They don't seem to be as widely available at competitive prices as the equivalent Yuasa etc, but I'd certainly buy another at the right price.
I had a Ballistic EVO 8 cell Lithium ion in my SS. T'was su-poyb Iknow that @Pablo Pirate has one in his as well
