Battery Trickle Charger And Charger Pigtail Lead?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by flatairbag, Oct 14, 2015.

  1. Hi, anyone have a recommendation for a permanent battery fixing lead that you can fix nicely into place to hook up a trickle charge to when required?
    Ive a 998.
On that note, also charger recommendations?
    Thanks.

  2. I'm a big fan of the CTek chargers. Whatever you go for, they usually come with the lead included.

  4. Nelly, thanks for the info.
Any links for models you recommend for the 998?

  5. Exige, whilst you are improving your post-rate.. I can manage to find Google myself thanks.

Sure Im intelligent enough to find the CTec website.. its just ive not used trickle chargers on a ducati before and was hoping someone had used a particular model to recommend one that fits the bill.

Ive seen it time and time before where people recommend brands etc on these forums, but these are often unsuitable for specific models of bikes.

So was trying to find someone had a 998 with a great charger setup on it.
    Thanks.

  6. I've got my Harley and Monster plugged into Optimate 3's. The Harley one is 12yrs old, so no complaints and the last battery lasted 7yrs!

  7. I use cheap float chargers that trickle and don't over charge as they turn off to prevent this. They cost me about £15 each and will suffice to keep a good battery in fine fettle. I actually have one on my 998 as well as other bikes. My 2 posh Optimates were a waste of money really as I never really need all the jiggery pokery to go with it. Motobatt have just launched a very cheap (£15) maintenance charger with functions but I would go for the simple one for a couple of pounds more.

  8. Hi,

I've been using for a long time the oxford oximiser 900 on several different bikes without any problems... It has been absolutely flawless

  9. I use an Optimate 3 on my 998 and it's on there for months at a time and I have had no issues with it at all.

I made up my own lead on one of the bikes I have, which is not a 998, that goes to a small velcro fitting on the top of the airtubes, this allows me to run GPS\datalogger for my track bike but also doubles as the lead for the Optimate.

Cost was about £12 and although that may seem expensive that did include other fittings to solder onto the datalogger wires. Much sturdier than the thin two wire jobs you get with the originals like Optimte, Oximiser etc.

  10. I'm not a fan of these trickle chargers. I do have an old optimate which gets used over winter maybe once a month for few hours and that's it

  11. I steer clear of any that don't turn off - many keep trickling which can't be good. Mine charge and discharge slightly keeping the battery as it would be in normal use.

  12. I've got an Optimate 4 plus a tail lead on my 916SPS connected to an Odyssey PC680 battery that copes well.
