Hi all need some help and advice please. Rode my bike to work yesterday morning 50miles mostly motorway. When I went to come home the bike turned on ok probably turned over half a cycle then all the lights went off and nothing. Repeated this process same result. Tried to bump it with a plucky colleague and it waste having that! so assumed it needed a new batter. Tried it again this evening... screen lit up like a Christmas tree with low batt earring flashing amongst everything else. Replaced battery with exact Yuasa replacement. This time it lit-up Ok and started ran for a few seconds and turned off. started again, rode it around the car park a bit the it went to cut out again. Any ideas? Could the new battery need boosting? Thanks as always
Age, mileage chief?, does sound like its more than just the battery! I'm sure one of the electrical gurus will show soon.
It’s 2017DVT touring 1200S with 7200 miles all done in the last 18 months. It’s normally used regularly for a 100 mile round trip commute. Recently been doing short journeys and I don’t use a battery tender on this bike and probable will need to in future.
one last mystery. After about 15 mins went back to the bike and the dash lit-up without me touching the bike. The key would have been out of range and it requested the pin no. maybe the bloody thing is haunted!
I believe several people have had this issue and from memory it may have been the BBS at fault or something similar. Do a search for cutting out and it should flag up.
Main fuse blown, it is a frequent failure in the DVT 1200, when I travel, when it heats it stops making good contact because the plastic around it is melted, when it cools it works again. Ask your dealer, they should fix it under warranty, it is a defect known to ducati. It is under the pilot's seat, next to the right side with a plastic cover
So here is the update which I hope is end of the matter. After 24 hours parked up at my work I tried the ignition before fitting a new Yuassa battery. The screen lit-up like a Christmas tree with low battery warning multiple faults and service due message as well. Still died when I tried to start it. I swapped the battery over and the bike started On the button, ran for 20 seconds the cut out again. It re-started and I did a couple of laps round the car park and it went to stall. I parked it turned it off and left it for ten mins then when I walked back to the bike the dash lit-up from about 10-15 feet away asking for the pin. i decided to leave it another night at work and took it first thing to the Ducati which is close to work. Even though they were fully booked they agreed to take a look at it and I asked them to put the new battery on charge. They called me later in the day and told me I need a new ignition module. £1050! When I picked it up I asked them to check the old battery which they said failed the test. When we started the bike no warning lights and all looked ok. I rode it home 50 miles with no issues. So still something of mystery. To be fair to the dealer once it started they said “try it”
so far so good. Just hoping the flat battery gave it a meltdown and any resets done by the dealer fixed it. Maybe another Ducati mystery.
Hmm, Ducati mystery, they seem to be struggling with these same / similar faults, typical dealer they want to throw expensive replacement parts at the problem. Maybe Fred, Daphne, Thelma, Shaggy and our good old friend Scooby Doo could investigate the mystery better! Those pesky kids.
