BBC Horizon 'Out of Control?' (how much our unconscious thoughts affect us)

  1. Wondered how many of you saw it/thought others might enjoy and/or relate to 'it'. :- BBC iPlayer - Horizon: 2011-2012: Out of Control? To me quite a 'zen' like subject and one that I think bikers relate to far more, possibly than others. The parts of the programme on movement awareness and processing of images is what we have to do all the time of course. Available until 17th Aug.

  2. Hi Chris

Yes, I watched that, very interesting. I realized this afternoon whilst firing up the beast for the first time since Jan'2nd, that probably the job of riding would be much better handed over to the subconscious as I was making rather a cock up with the 'conscious mind' trying to do the business. In my defense I will say that the 749s has slightly differing power characteristics from what I have been riding for the last 2 months in India!

  3. learning that you have found this home-from-home Forum has warmed the cockles of me 'eart John - can't wait to hear about your latest episode :upyeah:

  4. Yep, saw it. Lots of interesting things in there

It mentions learning by repetition to rewire the brain, I wonder why all the clever brainboxes in government and education have stopped our kids reciting their times tables?

    Tossers, the lot of them:smile:

  5. That's how you train a dog...! And you have to clear up their sh....

  6. I have definitely left it to my subconscious, always do when on the bike, leaves my conscious mind free to look for other idiots about

  7. I have never forgiven the person who stopped it !!! ever since seeing my daughter crying because she could'nt remember...Re times tables

  8. So, no different to a kid then:smile:

  9. It was easy to teach my kids their tables, we would chant them as we were going along in the car.

  10. One of my brain cells is far to busy pushing the other one round in it's wheelchair to understand any of this, I'm lucky I remember to breath.....I think!

  11. I learn best by repetition .
I agree I work in Education , teachers get sick of the powers that be stopping and changing stuff!
I work with children with special needs repetition works well with them .

  12. Are we there yet?

  13. Been a long standing interest of mine, and how language can affect hardcoded behaviours and our set our own 'maps' are. Then what can be done to break and relearn different hardcoded behaviours

  14. this doesn't surprise me from what I know of you Paul - breaking bad habits and learning afresh is of big interest to me also.
