I'm with Virgin media, and have been for the best part of 20 years from when the net supplier was NTL, Telewest and then Virgin. But now, I am finally considering someone else after this ridiculous spat Virgin have had with UKTV, which means we have lost several free to view channels including Dave and Gold. So, who are folk with for net and TV and are they any good ?? I don't care about phone lines, no one uses them anymore any way. We don't even have an aerial in the house anymore ?? Do you still need those with modern suppliers ? I have been on cable so long, kinda lost touch a bit. Cheers in advance Wayne
Nor one with a god complex, that tells everyone else how they should live their lives while offshoring all their cash so as to not contribute anything Saying that, we moved broadband to virgin as genuine 50+ mbps where’s sky was woeful. But tv stays with sky
Yeah, we are on the net big boy speed and I would genuinely miss that. Do you have a dish with sky ? Or is it now cable ? Do you mind saying how much you pay for these individually ? I asked Virgin about keeping the net only, but as we get such a mega deal on the phone line, TV and net package (£45), they said it would only cost £7-10 to drop phone and TV, which I thought was a bit shit. Can you get BT sport with Sky bradders ?? (For the GP)
Not had time to think about it, but like you I don’t know what’s available. Can you get rid of the BBC licence yet
Mate, I honestly don't know feck all, but I spoke to Virgin yesterday and he said its unlikely they'll get UKTV back, and for a day or two, we were going to lose ITV, but thats now sorted for 3 more years. I don't see why we would stay with someone who can add or take channels at will and think we won't be fucked off ?? They've taken the UKTV stuff and added some shit that no ones ever going to watch ? I pretty much only watch Dave and MotoGP, so was a bit pissed about it. The bloke on the phone suggested I buy an aerial and watch UKTV through free view ? So I have to buy something and rig up an antenna cause you won't supply free to view channels... Fucking really ?!?!?!
Our town had ntl replace the old aerial system with cable in the 80's and over time ntl stopped, sold things on and now Virgin runs it. I use that standard aerial system to get standard freeview through the tv,so if you have no aerial I would guess you have to have a new aerial fitted. A buddy still has an old sky dish, not connected to sky, uses that aerial supply My dad on the other hand does get the basic tv virgin package through the same free aerial and he said a few of his favourite channels have dissapeared, the ones you mentioned. He was going to phone them but has a big issue with understanding accents of which most of virgin customer services seems to be in India so he's not sure what he wants to do
Dish. What do freeview plus offer these days? Hd thru an aerial seems as good as anything else. Plus with fast internet and smart TVs you can run stuff like 4K hd tv like some bbc programmes via the WiFi connection to tv
https://www.freeview.co.uk/tv-guide#wTwHkhPbBL3z0VtG.97 Don’t have gold but Dave is there as are most main channels. And like I say, most can be found online if really needed and then streamed
Virgin is not the only provider to fall out with their prgramme providers, Sky had exactly the same problem with the Discovery channels 2 might be 3 years ago but they ended up kissing and making up. Discovery are the trouble makers here, demanding huge amounts of money for packaged channels that are 90% shit. Andy
So you think it's worth waiting a bit then before pulling the pin on someone else Andy ?? Pissed me off cause the channels we lost are free to view.
Yes mate, I do. Sky lost shed loads of customers in the first few weeks but by the end of the month, it was all resolved. As an aside, I’m not sure that Branson has anything to do with Virgin TV any more as he sold off a lot of his old empire to fund his space aspirations. Andy
I have seen these new fangled indoor panel type digital antennas, but not sure if they are any good or not ?? I might get on youtube for a quick review in case I go down that route ??
Just in case, there is a difference between freeview and free sat Most tv's these days have freeview built in, freesat tends to be via a box This is a rough understanding from Jan this year https://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/guides/internet/freeview-freesat-youview
