  1. Morning, just wondering if anyone whould be interested in running a one day course on changing cambelts and checking/adjusting valves, I would not want to take business away from the chaps who do this for a living, perhaps they could run a course?? They could charge a decent fee and I reckon a fair few would attend. Anyone think this is a good idea? Just a thought

  2. U tube is your friend.
Watch Chris Kelleys videos a few times and you should be able to do belts, especially two valve, which are a fair bit simpler to do.
The thing that puts me off doing the valves is the need for micrometer measurement and the big advantage of having a stock of shims to hand.

  3. I've seen one or two you tube vids and they are really good, might be good to see it in the flesh and talk to fellow owners and the mechanic pros too. I'm with you on the valve check/adjust everyone reckons it's a pain in the ass but if you are intending to keep your bike for years to come it would be great to be able to do it yourself. I'd pay to go on a course to watch someone do it, bet you'd learn loads

  4. Yep... I'd love to do that if someone could show me!

  5. I'd be in there like swimwear. My belts are coming up and I'm fed up with main dealer attitudes and prices. If my MY10 is worth sweet FA on a trade in then I'll do the work myself and run it till it dies.

  6. Seen the videos on your tube but I think there's definitely something to be said for actually seeing it being done...

  7. I agree with the above, nothing like seeing someone do something first hand. I learnt to build my TZ Yamaha race engines many years back from a mechanic that showed me all that was involved in doing the job. After that I did all my own rebuilds and even earnt a few extra quid doing others as well.

  8. The advantage of video is that you can watch it several times, replay parts you're not sure of and even replay bits while you're doing the job

  9. Have a friendly word with your dealer/mechanic.
I did a few years ago and he agreed to show me all i needed to know. I took my bike in and we did all the buisness with pulling cams out and checking replacing shims, effectively a full engine service, yes i had a fee to pay but it was well worth it as nowadays i do everything myself.
