Belt Fitting

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Cream_Revenge, Feb 27, 2019.

  1. Just fitting the belts on my 996. The right vertical camshaft pully span as its under springload. I've no idea if it went clockwise or anticlockwise.

I lined it back up and it span a few more times.

Eventually I got the belts on in the right place with everything lined up.

I've now fitted both belts and they are semi tight and I've rotated the engine (rear wheel turned with engine in top) many times and it moved freely.

Question is, if it's lined up is it OK? It doesn't have to be on a specific cycle? I'd imagine it's either opened the valve or not so spinning it either way first would make no difference.

  2. Yes, if it's lined up with the marks it's OK.

  3. If you're using the gates app for tension, it's a pain twanging the vertical belt behind the frame.

  4. Any ideas where this plugs in?

Is it a "spare" connector? 15512846637332001412303.jpg

  6. It's the plug for the solenoid switching. Plugs into the back of the solenoid. If there's already one in there, then it's a "left over" from an old alarm install. Back in the day, the Datatool alarms were pre loomed with the solenoid connectors.

  7. If it's the solenoid plug, put a cable tie around it, they can come loose.

  8. Thanks gents. Would never have found that.

I now see why Ducati moved the battery on the 999!
