Just done a service on my brothers 848 and this morning have changed the belts. I decided to check the tension before starting as I 'thought' they felt slack. They were only around 75mhz when they should be 110mhz. Is this normal after around two years ? Now that I have fitted the new belts they feel tight now.
Mine get tighter as the engine gets hotter..... ...but Gates tell me they should be under some tension when the engine is cold, otherwise a belt can climb of a pulley when starting if it is too slack. I used the Allen key method........... AL
That's correct, 110hz for new belts and 80hz for used ones. So 75hz on a pair of belts that have been on for 2 years is probably about right.
