Best moment on two wheels last year?

  1. The thoughts I'm clinging onto while its snowing..
My best two wheeled moment of last year would probably be giving the 1198 a quick (for me!) run up Mountain Course at the IoM. Quick shifting up through the box with a satisfying pop between gears, quiet well surfaced roads, my motorcycling heaven!
I also had a few decent runs in the Welsh countryside, the A483 through Welshpool, Newtown, Buith Wells then across to Chepstow, a trip to Tonfanau on the Welsh coast....
Now, it's mid March. Where's the bloody spring??
Anybody else care to share their highlights of 2012?

  2. I can share a few lowlights, bloody weather. Still fingers crossed for a fair year ahead.

  3. I'd like to say that it was the day I picked up my new 848 EC SE. But it wasn't.

It felt lumpy as a lump thing. on lump day in lumpy land, after my R1 and I lost the tax disc on the way home

  4. I can think of a few, but my favourite would be my best mate falling off on a track day. ( he is fine and almost no damage to the bike).

He was following me around for several laps and then a late out breaking attempt ended up with him flashing past me sideways on the floor. When we got back to the pits, his reason for crashing was that I was going to slow!

i nearly wet myself with laughter. Great day!

  5. Not actually ON two wheels but still Duke related. I was doing a little work on the 900ss and on lifting the tank to get to the air filter I found a mouse nest complete with family. I very carefully scooped everything up and then into a cardboard box in another part of the garage. A couple of weeks later and they had vacated hopefully all happy and healthy and full of Ducati power!

  6. Racing Beemers and Porsches into the Czech Republic in glorious sunshine on the way to Brno. Nothing like a fast blast to get the blood flowing:upyeah:

  7. On my mates 30th.. it was on a friday and the weather was perfect, so booked the day off and had a blast to the ace cafe for some breakfast. Took the long route back past woburn, the sound of his ZXR 750 H1 and my 900ss ie echoing and bouncing off the scenery as we rode, clear roads, perfect weather and nothing better to do. A rare opportunity with the weather we had in 2012.

Low point was a double femur and hip fracture in November.

  8. The Alps last year were a highlight for me, a week spent exploring fantastic twisting empty alpine roads. Weather was perfect, great company, great bike and rates as not only last years best riding experience but the best ever.

Keep looking at the photos wishing I was back there.

  12. Stevlio pass out of Italy after 3 nights in Bologna and the Mugello GP

  13. Highlights: six days blasting down through France and Spain on immaculate and half-empty A-roads, with barely a car in sight. Stopping only for petrol, bread and cheese and the odd lie down in the sunshine. Heaven

The low point was getting off the ferry in Dover, followed by the next six months hating every mile in traffic-congested, narrow, poorly surfaced south-east England. Am over it now thankfully... just about!

  14. They moved into your kitchen cupboards, where they are leaving droppings in your cornflakes and urine on your dinner plates.

  15. Without a doubt it was playing the fool on a 500 Bullet through South India with Extreme Bike Tours. Highlights of the tour included trying not to fall off due to laughing so much following a 'close encounter' with a bus, lorry and a road roller....but I'm still here to tell the tale! Another one was when a local leaned his head out of a bus as we were overtaking it and chucked up ....fortunately missing me and the guy in front....got away with that one too! Finally, we were overtaking a bus when it hit a cow 'amidships' ....bus slewed to a halt, cow got up and strolled off across the road followed by other bovines all saying 'moo!' ....we managed to weave through the mayhem then went roaring off down the empty road that lay ahead. Crazy times but loads of fun

  16. last year had a week tour round Wales, no rain at all. the Bala road 17 miles of biking nivanna, all the kit back in the hotel, just had a blast even on my old mutli saw 125 on it grinning from ear to ear

  17. It can't have been Wales then

  18. I vividly remember a trip up to Brum from London to see Sarah in glourious sunshine. The road was deserted and cut through a wonderful canopy of trees heading towards Chipping Norton. I can remember saying to myself inside my helmet, this is what I have been waiting for. It was early August and for that one day, it was summer. On the whole thou, I felt that I achieved a lot on the bike last year and left it a better rider than when I started....hopefully

  19. No room what with the cat, dog, ducks and chickens. Anyway, we imported some cane toads from Autralia to control them, what could possibly go wrong?
    Or
It is good to build up some immunity, after all, we used to live in caves and share our space with who knows what. Look at the alternative, a nation of people with allergies , intolerances and the inability to speak properly.

  20. Normandy:

Got back to the B+B from St Malo in blinding sunshine, then decided to have a blat to the next village for a swift half..
    Good crack.
