1200 Bigger Fuel Tank Next Time?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by ChrisBirb, Dec 31, 2015.

  1. Hi all. Noticed the new Enduro has a 30 litre fuel tank. Think the normal Multis will ever get one? Would make a big difference to it's touring abilities if it did. Might even be the deal clincher for me when I chop this one in.
    Any thoughts?

  2. I'd love the seat that was fitted on the Enduro bike on a 1200 DVT as well

  3. Maybe not the full 30 litre but even 25 would make a hell of a difference for me. I cannot trust the bike for long trips. I was riding on Xmas day and I had to stop every 100 miles for refueling to make sure that I don't get stranded in the wilderness. Large side panniers and 100mph speed cannot get me more than 150 miles.

  4. Always struck me as strange as when I sit on my multi, you could quite easily raise the tank height by quite a bit and not feel intruded upon. My old zx6r had the same range as my "touring" Ducati. Bit of a joke really as I'd expect a 200 mile range on a tourer.

  5. Wow! Had a phone call this morning from - Italy! Emailed them last night to ask about the bigger fuel tank and they phoned me back today. Guy on the phone said (in passable English) that they can't tell anybody about their future plans for bikes and referred me to my local dealer (J&L Motorcycles).
Couldn't thank me enough for buying a Ducati. Almost asked about the crappy fuel gauge they install but couldn't do it to him.

  6. Probably your GS riding mate on a wind up.

  7. The fuel tank capacity is poor especially as its marketed as a tourer.

The standard BMW GS has the same 20 L capacity whilst the GSA has a 30 L capacity, I don't know how the GS/GSA range compares with the MTS/DVT but we had to fill up twice going down to Cornwall, which is 3 hours!

I guess it would not handle as well with another 10 kgs of fuel.

  8. Not sure i am too bothered by a bike that will go 200 miles+ without needing a fill up. By 150 miles i need a drink and a rest anyway.

BTW not sure if anyone else has noticed but the tank cover on the Enduro bike looks the same as the one on the 2010-2014 Multi and is different to the DVT bikes.

  9. Would be nice to have that option though. Everybody has different limits when riding. Some can ride all day with fewer stops, whilst others can't.

  10. If I have a beer after 2300 my missus can't drive me home from the pub without wanting to fall asleep at the wheel.

  11. A scant 150 miles, is not enough in my opinion and my fuel light comes on at less than that. As the supplying dealer said you need to fill up asap after the light comes on as it is a Ducati.

The consumption doesn't bother me, but the range does so either the consumption needs to improve or the size of the tank increased.

  12. My fuel light is on all the time now thanks to appalling quality control wherever the sender unit is manufactured. 150 miles on the trip counter and then fill up anyhow.

  13. Yep fair point but when riding with mates they will still need to refuel before i do.

I also think our own bodies need a refuel every hour and a half anyway.

  14. The sensors are made by COBO Group.

  15. Interesting that their literature shows the sensors mounted with the connections at the top, not mounted into the bottom of the tank as on the MTS. I believe this has already been suggested as a possible cause of failure.

  16. I was wondering about the range as I am looking at a tour in Norway this summer and my mate who is route planning had aimed at 150 miles between fill ups till I told him last night that would be the limit for me and the 2 or 3 gaps of 155 to 159 might be just that bit too far...as said its like being back on a ZX6.

I did notice today though that with 110 miles on the clock, fuel light on, 2 bars on the gauge and 28 miles showing left as reserve it only took 12.8L to fill the 20L tank to the brim...... that means 7.2L left in the tank which should have taken my range way over the 150 mark.

Have I also got the duff fuel sender issue ?

  17. Prehaps contact that german chap who's making new bits & bob....extended fuel tank group buy?

  18. I must be a total pussy as I get 175-185 miles out of a tank on a regular basis! And I find that's plenty, I'm itching for a break by that point. I would hate the extra top-heavy weight of a 30 litre tank I think (though have to admit, I haven't tried one!)

  19. That's my average although I have stretched it to 200 on a very few occasions. When going abroad I would like the option of extra miles ( up to 250) for peace of mind, people wouldn't have to fill them up to the top if they prefer.

  20. I managed 180ish when I toured Spain last year.
Heading to Norway this year myself
