hi can anybody advise bike ticks over ok put it in gear pull away in first ok then put it in second and the 30 amp fuse keeps blowing any ideas please.
Any dodgy wiring about? My first thought would be a short.I would go through methodically swinging bits of wire/loom ,while stationary, seeing if I could get the fuse to pop.
Hi I have wiggled every wire with no luck someone did say it could be a problem with the charging side of things the regulator rectifier and a surge of power
Could be several things but one suggestion that comes to mind:- if it has the original regulator with rubbery yellow wires and bullet connectors these connectors can overheat and partially melt over the years and short to each other/short to earth - tell-tale could be signs of slight .blackening on wire/connector.
Hi now you mentioned it I did notice that the two yellow cables were biacken and yes I do have a multimeter
Interesting that it’s fine in first but not in second. Can’t help wondering if it has something to do with the neutral light, as the box has to go through neutral to get to second. Presumably you are starting it in neutral, what happens if you start it in second with the clutch in or in another gear??
The 30A fuse is the main fuse for everything so needs a substantial short to blow it. If the neutral switch is the later single wire sort the worst it could do is light the neutral light when it shouldn't. If it is the earlier 2 wire switch then it could theoretically short to ground but it is supplied through the 7.5A fuse for the indicators and warning lights which would blow first. So perhaps the 2nd gear issue is a red herring.
Its a two wire neutral the wires from the regulator rectifier were blackened and is not charging the battery the battery when the bike is running stayes at 12.1volts and hardly moves when I rev it so may be its getting a power surge
Which 30A fuse is blowing? The one at the top of the fusebox or the one under the tank at the side of the airbox? The one under the tank is for the charging circuit.
OK. It seems like a major short but it could be anywhere and very unlikely to be related to 2nd gear as the only thing that changes is the neutral switch going through neutral. Does the neutral light normally work?
Hi yes I have had a problem with the regulator rectifier wires from the stator melted but the rectifier had one less wire I have checked the stator and that seems ok
A fault with the regulator or the stator won't blow the main 30A fuse. It could blow the fuse below the tank though, but that is OK. Since the neutral light works that rules out the neutral light circuit. What happens when you select 2nd with the ignition on and the engine stopped? What happens when you select 2nd instead of 1st with the engine running from stationary?
hi the wires on the regulator rectifier have melted and I guess this has shorted the fuse I have got a new regulator this has six wires two yellow rectifier, two red witch join together, one black earth, one white were this is going to I don't know hi just checked the stator ok checked the relay ok replaced the regulator rectifier charging 14v ok I have checked everything I can think ,it starts ok ticks over ok as soon as I take to the road it blows the 30 amp fuse in the fuse box within 100yds I think all I can do is get someone to pick it up and look at it everything on the bike works so im at a lose.
