  1. Changed the belts, spark plugs and clutch yesterday no issues, started up ran sweet as a nut ride up the lane and back no issues, today though thought I go for a ride started her up, took a few times to catch once going ok, great just turn her off get changed but as I turned the ignition of she kept trying to turn over, in the end I had to undo the live on the battery, took the belts back off and re did them but again as soon as I attach the battery she is trying to start up and key is out of ignition, and help advice would be appreciated...:frown:

  2. it's the starter solenoid internal striker staying in the 'energised' position hya, sometimes happens when inactive for a while but sometimes it's just a freak occurance unless it's picking up a return from somewhere other than the starter switch. To check this just remove the little plug on the starter solenoid. If it's still churning then it's the first one* ^ :)

*having said this, could be starter switch itself staying 'on' but rare in my experience - same test as above - i.e. - try removing little plug to see if churning stops.

  3. How do I fix that Chris please and thanks for quick reply

  4. it's a 'solid state' unit unfortunately but if you feel inclined you can strip it by prising out the spun-down steel flange with a sturdy flat-bladed screwdriver. Have you tightened up the two terminal nuts on the solenoid recently? (will await your reply before adding)

  5. Don't want to worry you but .....

Strange behaviour can also be caused by the injector/fuel pump relay

  6. Now, haven't touched it, I did give the engine a good clean whilst belts and clutch out. Not touched the solenoid I don't think. I just stated to happen this afternoon.

  7. Good one like that,:upyeah:

  8. ok, I will spare you the laborious explanation on that one then :) - they turn up s/hand for as little as £10 posted - some may say this is also a gamble but i've not bought a s/hand dud yet and have got through a few. They are common to many of the Ducati range around that period plus other Cagiva bikes (Mito, Elefant) and possibly many other marques also.

EDIT Do the plug removal test first and get back to 'us'.
