Biketrac And Alarm Battery Consumption

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by pisquano, Dec 26, 2014.

  1. Hi everyone I was considering buying a bike with biketrac and/or Ducati alarm but I'm not sure if having both would create too much of a drain to the battery. Now I know that biketrac has its own battery that is topped up when needed but still.. Anyone has experiences with having both? Thanks.

  2. Havent any experience of both but used to have an alarm.Had a few probs with alarm so took it off!Iused a battery optimiser/charger just to keep it topped up.

  3. Biketrac has an internal rechargeable battery which is kept topped up by the bike battery. The internal battery on its own will last about a week. The drain on the bike battery is small and unless you do not ride the bike every week or two it will discharge the bike battery. I use a Ducati battery conditioner at all times when the bike is in my garage and so far had no problems. If you run an alarm you can expect it to drain the main bike battery relatively quickly when you don't ride so will need some sort of a charger/battery maintainer. Andy

  4. Ducati comes with immobilizer as standard anyway, if you fit bike trac dont bother with a noisy alarm its not worth it.
The bike trac is excellent bit of kit, I have both my bkes fitted with them, like what was said above if you ride it frequently you will have no problem, if it is going to be laid up for 3 months during winter you will need to have it on an optimate charger.

  5. two bikes !! what do you have ??

  6. Well if you read what I posted on othe thread you will see,
I have Streetfighter 848 and I did have Pani 899 but have just part exed it for the 1199s dark. Have postponed registration till Jan 2nd so papoerwork says 2015 bike hopefully take delivery end of Jan.

  7. i see but what if I need also an alarm that makes noise? That's for instance for the occasional idiot who wants to sit on your bike and in general for added security. I've considered in the past an alarmed disc lock but there are very few (if at all) that look reliable at all

  8. Well if you really want to fit a noise making device that no one pays attention to then feel free, but how will you hear it if bike parked up and you have wandered off somewhere else?
I moved my bike 6ft in garage without key in the ignition 30 seconds later got text message to say bike movement detected that's good enough for me, oh and about 2 minutes later they were ringing my mobile to make sure everything was ok, it is a managed system which I cannot not fault.

  9. I agree with you but still it's supposed to deter people messing with your bike even if you are not close why I'm looking into this

  10. Bike Trac uses a minimal amount of power but it also monitors the main bike and will warn you via SMS if it drops to a low level. Agree if you want noise, fit an alarmed disc lock or such like.

  11. You will have a flashing red LED on the dash that should act as a deterrent as it would appear that it is alarmed.

  12. point taken, but I'd still like the option to have some kind of noise when needed.
can you guys recommend a decent alarmed disc lock? Xena seem popular but I know a lot of people complain they go off all the time for no reason...
    another brand is Artago

  13. Oxford do a reasonably priced one
