Folks, need to get a blank key for the 848. I belive the part number is 59840331A. There are some on ebay but they look copied & cheap (?) so dont wanna take a chance. Anyone know someone reputable I can use ? tks
We have a main dealer here and up in northen Ireland. The guys up north wont have one for a couple of weeks, i need it a little sooner if I can. My fault , left it until the last minute. No comment re our very local dealer down south ....
The keys have little chips in them with unique numbers. The problem is that you will have to: 1. get a blank key cut to match your ignition lock 2. get the chip in the key programmed to your bike Your Ducati dealer will be able to do this for you. You can get round #2 by copying the chip number off an existing key onto a "blank" chip in a key that you have cut to your lock. Most (decent) key cutting places will be able to do this as it's the same method of copying car keys that has been going on for years. They may also be able to supply you with a key that fits the lock, but not necessarily one that looks like a Ducati key! If you need one in a hurry, you may be best doing it that way, and then forking out for the real thing later. You can buy "copy" keys on ebay that look like Ducati keys but aren't. Cheapest are around a fiver but these don't have the chips - if you can get your local key cutter to put a chip in that, you'll end up with the same thing. You can get copy keys with the chips in starting at around £25.
order it from one of the mail order specialist dealers- Ducati Coventry, Moto Rapido etc if they dont have it they can get one within 24/48hrs
