I was looking at buying one direct from the states, but the shipping cost is crazy ($70+). Is anyone interested in joining me in a purchase so we can share the shipping cost. I have a good friend in Vegas, who could ship the parts as a 'gift' (for customs purposes) thus hopefully reducing the chance of getting clobbered for import duty and VAT. Another thing, there is a shop in Vegas (Belissimo) that sell CNC Racing stuff cheaper in dollars than we can buy for in pounds here in the UK......WTF?? Deaks
Just have the goods labelled under £135 or $240 dollars? And you won't get clobbered with the higher rate import duty. So my advice would be have your friend label it as worth $50-100dollars & pay a bit of rip-off money.
Even if something is marked as a gift you will still have to pay VAT on the total value (i.e. including postage and customs duty) if it is valued at over £34. Customs duty will only be payable if the goods are valued at over £135. From £135 to £630 the duty rate is 2.5%. Obviously if something is sent and on the CN22 form valued at under £34 then you won't be able to have postal insurance for it for over that value. So if something happens to it in transit you won't be able to claim the full value of the item.
