hey chaps ive got my self a 748 track bike and am thinking of getting the engine blueprinted for reliability a. is it going to make that much difference? b. would it make any more hp?? i hear there a bit under powered for track use. many thanks.
Hi. It'd certainly make it smoother, more reliable, rev quicker and give it a bit more shove yes. Getting a big twin properly lightened and balanced make a big difference in the whole feel of the thing. Louigi Moto did my 996 SPS, and i did take it a bit far with a bunch of light weight engine internals but took it 143bhp and is absolutly bomb proof as it's not really been tuned, just built how the factory would like to if they had the time. That's the art of blueprinting. It's just making the best of what you've got. I'm even running standard heads at the moment. 748s make great track bikes cos they've got the extra revs to make it fun. If you are serious about it, and i don't wanna become a sales man here, but i've got a complete JHP quickshifter with corse sytle race lever and some race cams too if you were really concerned about being blitzed down the straights. Paying out now on a blueprint is good thinking in my book as it's good before you start hammering it. Instead of just thrashing it until something fails. When you'd probably end up with an even bigger bill.
hhhmmmm good question if your having a bash doing it yourself then id be tempted to say yes but if you were planning to put it to an engine builder id be tempted to say no and spend your cash on mayb better suspension better calipers better brakes and book loads of track time to get used to the bike and how it rides are you racing it or is it a track bike? if its a track bike live with the apparent under power but to be honest you wont find it underpowered
its only track days mate but i do hammer it!! suspension and brakes all sorted did them my self, but id send the engine off to get blue printed if i get it done.
Blueprinting is a specialist job for sure yes. A good job will enable you to squeeze even more power out of it at a later date if you wanted too by gasflowing the heads etc, without the thought of over stressing a rough bottom end. Ask as many places as you can what they will actually do for your money though. Now i promise i'm not on the payroll, but JHP are down the road from me yet i still drive 2 hours to Louigi Moto for any engine work i want doing. Great work, great people, great price.
Chris at CJS RACING Ducati Cylinder Heads Tuning Gas Flow Dyno ECU Custom Mapping Bristol Bath runs out of Louigi Moto and did my ST3 engine 100 odd Bhp - 123Bhp and it's perfect throughout the rev range. Well recommended. But again it depends on what you want?? Fit a 996 motor is probably cheaper? Then your maybe losing the characteristic of the bike you have and like??
I certainly would not be spending money on blueprinting a rusty only 748 lump lol. Plenty of other options 853 kit, 916 or 996 engine or 1098 engine if you want to spend a bit more. But then you have to look at what you could pick up say a 996 for ?
Had mine done, a 996, at Snells. They took over the "Full Monty" work previously done by Neil Spalding at Sigma Performance. Runs lovely, only just picked it up this weekend, but very happy with it so far. I had it done to ensure reliability and also get some more power. Speak to Paul at Snells.
