Body Repairs

  1. I have often used petrol and polystyrene to create a good glue for plastic repair but would be interested to know if there are any other ideas/products that will provide a good solid repair.

  2. Q Bond and a hot staple gun. I Cut a V along the fracture on the front once the parts were stapled and glued together then filled the V with filler, sanded smooth and resprayed.

  3. Wow, now that's what I call a good job. What bonding product did you use?

  4. Did you use the staples for stability only and were they removed prior to painting?

  5. What is the difference between a staple gun; a hot gun and a hot staple gun please?

  6. Would such a repair be suitable and robust enough for a broken tab?

  7. Plastex is very good for broken tabs, I’ve done a few with it. You can even recreate missing tabs with it.

  8. It was glued with Q Bond first. You can get the same effect as Q Bond with superglue and bicarbonate of soda powder.

Staples were on the inside so not visible from the outside, they provide strength and minimise flex as superglue joints get brittle.

The hot staple I’m referring to is a product such as this.

The ‘staple’ is heated, pushed into the plastic, but not all the way through, twisted slightly under the surface of the plastic and forms a permanent splint.

Most definitely. I use them all the time on broken fairing tabs.
