On start up my St4 with a 916 engine has been turning over, stopping, thinking about it for a second and OK OK OK OFFFF WE GO. It's got a brand new battery! Been driving me mad. I saw this fella at Jens Bar-B-Q, he just touched his starter button and instant firing. My eyes popped out of my head. As he disappeared off I thought 'damn I should have asked him if he's updated the cables'. Now as it happens I've just come in from the garage after having fitted some 'Exact fit cables.' Problem solved. It starts up straight away. No pausing, no thinking about it, just instant thunder and Termignoni music. It's turned a rainy day into a happy one. Tomorrow...work.
Twas me sam, you just arrived at Jens as I was leaving and yes my cables have been upgraded but before Exige started supplying. Steve
I fitted mine at the weekend and I agree, they have improved the starting of my 1098 by a massive amount. Did I have to buy them off here to get the forum discount?
Okay E, in response to your drama queen award - (wouldn't have posted this if you hadn't) - I can see your starter leads are very well made and the repeated testimony of members on here show that they work well. For people that can't cut cable and solder and apply heat shrink (or maybe haven't the time) this is a good route to improve their starting performance. For people who can, you can do it at a fraction of the cost.
You can also buy a CX500 V Twin instead of your Ducati to fit lower quality cables to - and some of my terminals are difficult to make to be fair. Also you can't use a 35tonne fused crimp and double seal for life. Also 100% oxygen free copper terminals are hard to find and all mine are bespoke made. I think in reality you cannot replicate the quality for a fraction of the cost - which is why I guess several people who have gone your suggest route are now my customers. Can't please everyone, just offering the best available at a cheaper price to my main competitor from the states. I don't need to bribe people to wright reviews, but thought you were just being cheeky and not malicious :Wideyed:
Yeah I had a set of upgraded cables made from speaker cable with about a gallon of solder applied to the ends. Did they work? Yes Were they pig ugly and gave me no confidence? Yes Was the fit utterly appalling? Yes (my starter solenoid is hanging out its rubber housing) I've purchased Exige's kit and its first class, right down to detailed instructions and tie wraps included. Try getting a set of these cables of that quality, properly crimped and terminated off an automotive supplier and see the cost. Alternatively look at the cost of the crimping tool required to do a proper job on the terminals with that diameter of cable. Yeah you can botch something up yourself that will work, but its going to be a lot of time, effort and grief. I really don't understand swathes of carbon to shave ounces from the bike and not purchase something that will really make a difference. Maybe its just me
The quality of both the cables and also the whole fitting kit is excellent, certainly it doesn't look like something you'd knock up in your garage. Very professional looking, excellent instructions and the kit contains everything you need and I do mean everything. I can see that everything really has been thought about and certainly would recommend them. Do you do a kit for a CX500 by the way?
discount? whats this discount thing yer talking about? i would of paid double for the piece of mind they have given me. well maybe not double.. what are the oe ones coming in at? and they are pish.
No need to get into a war here E, and maybe your drama Queen was not received by me correctly either - was about to delete post until you posted reply. Can certainly guarantee that any leads I have made and fitted will last as long and perform as well as any of yours - if you wanna take it further and devise some sort of testing system then go for it other than that just take it in the manner in which it was posted is my advice - please drama queen me everyone - I obviously deserve it
In connection with the parts of your post that I have quoted old Jock , yes I would agree with your last sentence and I totally understand people sticking to what they are good at and purchasing stuff that they are not.
Ah, Steve, I was well impressed. You hardly touched the button and it was up n running and it was all a normal occurrence. I thought, right... Gotta get that sorted. Good to meet you. Have you ever tried HID projectors? That could be next.
I paid the normal price anyone on here would pay...I believe. But when someone provides a good service and a really good product they deserve thanks. I also really like the mutual pooling of knowledge. So everyone can benefit. Too many people just use the Internet forums and feedback to bitch about things. Bring on the good stuff and spread it around a bit.
just been having a bleather about this with a good mate of mine. lets put this in to perspective. i recently bought a set of +battery leads for a Peugeot expert 3x the length, but a gazillion times the production, lower quality in my opinion hence they needed replaced 229+vat.v.high resistance at crimping, and that was with my discount. i didn't get payed to say that.
Hear, hear and think (not you Sam) before you award a 'drama queen' in some contexts or you might goad someone into stating a bit of truth just for the benefit of some who might not be so well heeled. If you read through the way the posts appear you will see my challenging post is not 'bitchy'. I then got called malicious and so had to clarify things , it was that simple.
