So my back brake doesn't seem to work much on the s2r 800 I'm going to bleed it the weekend plus the front brake makes a weird noise when applying pressure at speeds so will be taking a look at that too. What are my options of upgrading the calipers or will throwing in a good pair of brake pads do just as much? Would calipers from a s2r 1000 work or are they just as bad?
If the front is a "fizzing" noise, then that's the right noise! If it's a graunchy or squeaky or metallic noise, then it's not! As for the back brake, take the caliper off and hold it above the master cylinder (where the foot pedal is) to bleed it - stick a block of wood between the pads to stop the pistons being pushed out! They are notoriously bad to bleed through in place as the master and caliper are in line so lots of air gets trapped and you end up with a crap rear brake. Moving the caliper up means a nice free run for air to rise and come out when bleeding. Clean everything up with brake cleaner and put the caliper back on - job done!
Yeah it is a weird sort of fizzing noise I thought there was something up with it . I'm going to try your method of bleeding the rear brake this weekend and see how that goes.
Rear brake - stick to what you've got. They never do work brilliantly, but they should be good enough with some care. front brake - worth upgrading, 4 piston calipers from the thou or many other Ducati models of a few years ago are a big improvement, you will need to change the discs as well, S2R800 standard discs are 300mm, you'll need 320mm discs to go with the 4 pad calipers.
