can anyone tell me do standard plates fit in a bucci slipper clutch? Mines slipping quite a lot with a passenger on the back especially when hot! couldn't pull away on a hill It not where can I get some plates or clutch kit ?
Really need a bit of history. Has the Bucci felt as though the plates are slipping since it was fitted or has it progressively got worse ? There are several simple reasons why clutch plates slip. The plates are in the wrong order. The springs don't compress enough either because the cups in the pressure plate are too deep or they are shagged. I once asked if clutch springs came in different lengths and got a very vague answer but I do know from experience that pressure plates have different depth spring cups. It is also know that clutch push rods changed length and got longer in 2000. So you see you need to fill in a few gaps to help disgnose the possible problem. Andy
Sounds like your friction plates need renewing. Buy some new springs whilst you are at it. Standard plates fit. If it slips then it could be there is no strength left in the springs to push the plates together tightly or the friction plates are worn and thus dont grip the plain plates and spin. If it worked okay before and has just started slipping, i suspect the plates. But also get some new springs. I find the standard ones get a bit weak. I prefer stainless.
Now that statement opens up a can of worms. My current springs went rusty after running at Brands in the rain last week so I had a very similar conversation this morning where it was suggested that stiffer springs will alter the characteristics of the slipper clutch and it's performance. Until I got back on track I hadn't remembered how hard the slipper worked into bends like Paddock at Brands. When my set up was run on the dyno it was remarked how well the slipper worked so I'm now a little reluctant to pursue changing to springs that don't go rusty because they will be stiffer. Mmmm, bit of a dilemma. Andy
Takes 5mins to swap em over Andy. Plus they are not that pricey. Try em or leave it as it is. Up to you. I think someone may make normal steel but plastic coated too. The world is your oyster. Very quick and easy to swap em over.
Its sliped since i purchased it. Will get some new plates and springs fitted i suppose. Are the ones on flee bay any good?
Before you rush out and spend money, strip the clutch down making notes of what goes where. You can find what thickness the steel plates need to be and what the friction plates should look like. You should also have at least 2 plates that are dished. You can also measure the springs. You need to google the sequence for the plates. To check if the springs are shagged put a small spacer under the spring when you reassemble it and see if it is better. Good luck. Andy PS - I still suspect the pressure plate because it sounds very similar to the experience I have had where the spring cups were 5mm deeper.
Why change springs? Daft idea. A well set up clutch pack with good plates will run on four springs only. Strip clutch, check order against bucci recommendations , clean and re-asemble.
Slipping means that stack is not heigh enough. If the frictions look on then swap (If possible) one or two 1.5mm steels for 2mm. Beef that stack up but dont go to high or your slipper wont slip
