Ok, so I am going to build a workshop 1n the garden. Basic spec is 19m t&g, 3x2 cls and 19mm t&G floor. 20' x 12' with double doors and some single glazed units. Insulation wise I am thinking as follows: order outside to in Secondary glazing: Acrylic sheet(sealed with silicone) Walls and ceiling Waterproof membrane (tyvec etc) stapled to outer t&g air gap (20mm?) 50mm celotex or similar waterproof membrane (DPM etc) OSB or ply Floor waterproof membrane 19mm T&G Upvc interlocking floor tile consumer unit and lighting/power points Frost protection heater electric radiator Bar smart TV Sat TV Surround sound system Have I got the insulation order correct?
I went for 70mm thick log cabin double garage - much less fuss. Replaced the shit side door and window in the kit with a proper fire door and double glazing for security and dryness. Built in under 2 days on my own.
I like the idea, but i am on a budget of around 3K for completion. 70mm log cabin would bust the budget I suspect
It will be worth the extra in the end  mine cost £7K about 7 years ago - kit was less than £5K, 6" concrete base pumped £1K, Electrics and new Side Door / Windows £1K
Don't forget the air con..allow £1200 inc vat. Heats, dries and cools and 1\4 running cost of an electric fire..
10-12m3 of concrete.. Wtf...how bigs the cabin? At 150mm thick that's 80m2!! OK slightly less if you include the cost of the steel reinforcing in the concrete price.
Sorry I missed the 20 x 12. I assume its a shed style apex roof? Easier to make strong with less wood, or a flat but angled roof, easier to roof, but needs a strong support. Never use OSB on a roof, its not worth the saving. Use hardwood wpb 18mm. Paper layer, nailed. Aluminium roof nails. The torch on intermediate layer top to bottom and then top layer starting at lowest point, over lapping towards the top. I'll send links? Buy the felt from a roofing company... Not a wicks etc.
foil backed, extras/part damaged from a clean room build. Roof - Felt, t&g, membrane, bubble foil, air gap, 50mm celotex
We've moved on now to fibreglass roofing. Steep learning curve...finally got it right. However the 16' square utility room roof would embarrass a boat builder..its near 2" thick. It took us a while to get the technique right
