I recieved a cold call a few weeks back professing to be able to get overpaid business rates returned to me, apparently in the region of £15,000. Now, I've had a number of these call over the years and always quickly dismissed them as a scam but this chap offered to send me details of clients in the area with whom i could check the credibility of his company......why not thought I. He did and as it happens 2 of his clients are old friends if mine, i popped around for a brew, catch up and a chat, everyone on the list friends and unknowns where successful, so, after carefully reading the no win no fee agreement, I gave the go ahead. I recieved confirmation yesterday from the council that I will be receiving over 14k in overpaid rates and a subsequent reduction in rates! Who'd have thunk it!!!!
Nice one! Have you charged them interest for the time they had the overpaid money? With £14k you could have bought a 1098R which now would be worth about £17k. So really they owe you £3k in interest. Might be worth a phonecall!
Any chance you might share this business name? Currently doing similar with my business rates, but seems awfully slow process, how long till you got your good news?
Saw a new "claim" today. One saying if your mortgage was moved from one company to another without you knowing, then you could have a claim. The way they worded it seemed to be like, If I have my mortgage with Halifax and the Halifax move it around to get a better return for them and didn't tell you then you can claim. The Halifax use was just to explain the theory by me. I'm waiting to see when they do the "did you pick the wrong wife? then you have a claim"
From first contact to confirmation from council about 4 weeks.....council have said itll be returned to us within 7 days. I cant remember the exact name of the company but i have the docs at work, ill have a look on Monday and let you know
Hang on, we have an interlude - have you sacked your accountant yet? Shouldn't your accountant know what your business rates should be - ours do
There were huge increases this year, so there is a lot of haggling now taking place, my rates went up from 55K to 75K, itbseems that not all my space should be charged at the same rate, which is where negotiating can take place.
