749 Buying Info

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Ryan, Jan 27, 2019.

  1. Hi everyone,

Im off to buy a yellow 749 tomorrow 2004 model.

Looking for any information that you guys can share with ownership experience.

Any obvious signs to look out for or to make you avoid buying one.

    Issues, common faults.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Valve service every 6K mls is not cheap, check when it was last done.

Belts service (£350 at average Ducati mechanic) is every 2 Years but many people run for 3 years, some longer.

  3. Much we talking for a valve service this is defo not had it. It has been off the road for 2years.
Would get it done as i beleive im getting it for a good price at £1800 so willing to have it serviced for peace of mind

  4. I'd budget about £1k then.

Rich at Luigi Moto Bristol shouldn't be to far for you, I don't know of any Ducati specialist in South Wales. Give him a call.

You many also want new tyres too.

£1800 is a good price. What's the millage?

  5. £1800 is a very good price as long as it is in good shape and allows for a thorough service. As mentioned above £350 ish for a belt service, I guess a valve check would be another £400 -£500 but even then it is not very often you see a decent 749 for under £3k and you`d know it was all taken care of. I had a lovely yellow one for a while, great bikes, full of character. Fast enough without being too fast. Just avoid slow traffic and towns if you can. Good luck

  7. Doesn't he live in Scotland.

  8. £1800....... bargain worth that in parts just buy it then get a service belts changed etc and it’s still cheap even taking the service cost into consideration

  9. Bloody long commute if he does.

  10. Take care about the keys and the card. It should come with two black keys and a red one, used for making copies of them. Anyway, is a good price! Let us see that yellow once is yours!

  11. It has one key no red key but I've read that they can be cloned.

Got it for £1800 needs a service which will be booked in Ducati Glasgow in due course.
It has the DataTool immobaliser on it heard these can be a pain in the arse will i get it removed or keep it on?

Im planning on cleaning it up and getting it serviced then selling it to someone who will appreciate a 749.

    Im after another Hypermotard.

  12. I've got a feeling that after you've got it sorted and properly ridden it you will want to keep it....best colour BTW.;)
