  1. Yes, another paint question.

The bike is a 92 white frame 900SS.

First question – does anyone know what the original paint type is?

I have been touching up a few bits on the frame – stone chips, deep scratches. I wanted to try and keep it original and did not what to repaint or powder coat it.

I sanded back areas to bare metal and have been priming with Hycote etch primer which says it suitable for Acrylic and cellulose paint.

I went to a local auto paint place to get a colour match and remember asking what paint they thought it was on the frame as I obviously wanted it to be compatible. I can’t remember the answer but remember someone saying they thought it was powder coated, but definitely asked do they think whatever they were giving me was compatible. Anyway I got the paint - Cellulose and have up to press sprayed a few areas and to be fair all seems well.

Doing the old “internet search” as is sometimes my want - the consensus on compatibility of cellulose with other paints seems to be not very good.

Could anyone with a good painting knowledge advise on my first question and what type of paint I would be best using.

There were comment about if the paint is old you could be ok, but views seem to be varied.

    Cheers Gaz.
