1200 Cam Belt Covers With A Gap?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Lumpy, May 29, 2016.

  1. I've bought a 1200s that recently had the 5year Desmo service carried out by a premier Ducati dealer. So i'm now checking things myself and aside from the overtightened rear wheel nut that did not have the locking pin located properly I can see a gap inbetween the upper and lower vertical cam belt covers. Is this normal? Next I am going to check the belt tension - the last Multi I bought had also been serviced by another premier Ducati dealer with incorrectly tensioned cambelts.........

  2. Mine is exactly like that. Although when I opened it, everything seemed normal. I thought it was placed there in a hurry but there is no play in the screw holes. It's impossible that somebody put it back the "wrong" way. Seems to be bad design.

  3. Seems strange! So I wonder if the Carbon covers are the same?

  4. I googled for some pictures and it seems that the original covers do have a gap (at least on all bikes that I happened to find large photos of). Even in "official" pictures.
The carbon ones however, are a different story. They seem to cover the cam belts fully.

  5. Thanks for that. I may well get the carbon covers then seeing
    as they actually fit properly!
