Cam Shaft Seal

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by gaz92, Mar 21, 2020.

  1. Basically, have I knocked the seal in too far. There is a bigish taper on the bush and think the seal is too far in and not sealing on cylindrical part of the bush.

  2. I think I knew the answer really.
Pressing the seal in flush gives 2.5 / 2.7mm to start of chamfer.

I was about 2mm in so for me that's a bit too close for comfort. Picture shows back of seal 3mm from end of space.
Looks like I need another 2 seals.

  3. Knock up a spacer so you can press it to a firm stop?

  4. Keith,
Yes I have a large thick flat washer, I will take the cams out and pull them in with a "G" clamp over the head until the washer contacts the outer face then back of seal will be flush as per above sketch.
Not that I am going to re-use the seals but I've just pulled a seal out and reinstalled using method above and it looks a lot better.
Starting to do valve clearance while waiting for a few bits - so you might be hearing from me again.

    Cheers Gaz
