As some will know, been messing with wiring for stereo so hoping nothing else an issue. Started fine a few weeks ago when I moved it, but not really driven since Jan. has been charged for 24hrs and with lights on they dim off when trying to start a. Everything suggests battery is dead, but shows 12.6v still even after this video. @cookster ?
Porkers aren't great on batteries, on my 987.2S it lasted pretty much 2 years and to keep the warranty (although it isn't covered by the warranty) you have to buy a Porker battery (Bosch) for £200!! Not wanting to tempt fate as my current pork is OK, but I'd start there.
Chers John. I’m going to see what I can grab hold of and also get a new charger, one that will put in the 70plus amp that’s needed.
Seems to run warm still, and you can smell the oil too. So think, as I’m off this week, I’ll be dropping the bumper and having a look if the roads are blocked with leaves and the fans working ok. Or just take it to @cookster to get on his ramp while the boss is t looking lol
I have a trade card, had for years, so it’s 20% off batteries. Suspect I may be using it more than I have for quite a while
yip, i know stuff, if you hd he multimeter on the battery when you attempted to crank you would of noticed the bat voltage drop way down. i was thinking about this thread the other day, i dont know the age of the vehicle but some vehicles, i am thinking it was the discovery and some of the fiats that use the connect system wont start if those smaller connectors are part of the same CAN system the engine management uses. if there not connected or the stereo aint compatible.
1998. Seems all ok now, although a couple of warning lights popped on and off during stages of driving. It’s the temp that concerns me a little so need to get roads clear of debris and if that’s not the issue stick it in somewhere to test the cooling system
I’m guess8mg water as it’s water cooled, the oil temp doesn’t have a gauge? Although I am using the hvac hack so I can monitor more accurately. The dash gauge shows a tad over the 0 of 80.
Ah, the 997 had an oil temp too. The oil used to sit @ 90c in that. Seemed normal running temp. Around 80c water doesn’t sound excessive.
You will find that the engine smells hot and that the tyres spit rubber / tar into the silencers which also smells / perfumes. In my experience all 911 models “smell” hot. Beetles are the same.
In case I missed it Bradders, do you know when the battery was last replaced? I ask as I've seen some chargers show yep your battery is fully charged but so old it's not holding the charge
