It seems a car driver has been done for doing 154mph, he received a 56 day ban and £365 fine. wonder if it were a biker whether he would get the same treatment.....I doubt it. Driver caught speeding at 154mph is banned for 56 days - BBC News
I got a year ban , a 4 month suspended sentence and a £1500 fine back in 96 for doing 142 on my fireblade . Caused me no end of trouble .
1 month ban and £150 fine for 135mph (according to PC) in 1988 on a GSX750. I was well pleased with that.
"Officers said they believed it to be the highest recorded speed on a Suffolk road." i know for a fact that this is incorrect
1993 - 1 years ban and £550.00 fine for apparently "evading capture" - which in reality was me with personal stereo on not realizing I was being chased by police bike....it was a good song, I was pretty well in the zone and, being on a GSXr 7-11 decidedly narrower than said police BMW with paniers....they came round my house in the afternoon. To which I got the stupidest question while I was cleaning it on the pathway...."is this your bike sir?" to which I replied "no I thought id clean it for a laugh..." - which then got the retort of "if you wouldnt mind sitting in the back of the car...." Previous to that 6 months ban and a stock £30.00 fine for a sp30 which took me to 12 points...from memory once you got to a tot up of 12 points when you got your licence back you then got another code for the tot up of 12 points...not sure how its all done now as I'm a good boy and (miraculously) have a clean licence... I only gotten away with it once in my life (well 4 of us actually) in court, when I stupidly answered a question while being questioned by the prosecutor, where if they realized what I said they could have thrown the book at all of us but in fact through continued stupidity from my other mate we actually turned the whole thing the other way round and walked free...
No - for the evading capture I got a cd30. Ironically my mate got a cd30 at the time for being flagged down by a copper on foot and just when he got to him he gave him the bird and rode off...not very clever as he had his plate.... Speeds weren't high as I was in town and going through heavy traffic albeit at some speed...just didn't realize anyone was behind me... I must confess I was a fair bit lippier back then in my early twenties....now I just tend to shut up, be nice, laugh at their jokes and hope for the best...
Someone might want to link the six bikers on visordown who just got banned from filmed footage of them personifying americunts on uk roads. I can't be arsed but the silver merc as above got let off far leaner then the bikers.
Yeah - I did see that last week....I will say I take chances but they were really over the top - how one, most of all of them didn't get hit is a mystery....
I got pulled by unmarked Vulva Estate a couple of weeks back on M3. I was clocked at 90+ and undertaking allegedly. Had my girlfriend on back. Took lid off and was polite, agreed I was riding like a twat and got a bollocking. Cop who spoke to me said he rode and that cars were clogging outside lanes doing 50-60.
I got taken to court the other year for an alleged 107 in a 60, I took a specialist solicitor with me and the only evidence that they brought to court was the officer saying "I think he did it" There were problems with the speed gun calibraton and his in-car video had disappeared, as had his written notes... The 3 magistrates looked at each other for a moment, then said I was free to go, "The officer and CPS solicitor WILL! stay behind, we need a chat" Still cost me over £2K in legal expenses because although I was awarded a claim, it didn't nearly cover it. I kept a clean license though and changed bike and gear soon after as the officer had said he would be looking out for me.
Oh thanks, Keith..................That's you off my Christmas card list for starters...... PS....Mine isn't an Estate...........It's a R Design Lux.........bought because Mrs Arq has osteoporosis.
The news reports don't seem to say anything about points in addition to the ban and fine - I've heard that in some cases you can get a ban without points, and it seems a good deal, assuming that the offence was in ban territory anyway. The insurance companies are always going to make something on it, but I'm sure that points plus ban is worse than just one or the other, from their point of view, and that's before you consider the cumulative toxic effect of the points with "totting up". Perhaps the courts could introduce a system where offenders choose punishment options from a menu (no doubt some would take corporal punishment if offered).
£375 6 points & £400 28 DAY ban for 80mph and 110mph on a surrey dual carriageway in 2013. All depends on the magistrates and the area. 147mph in A3 in Hampshire in 1986 £1000 fine and lost licence for 6 months. Same week 126mph for a first time offender in Liverpool got 3 weeks inside. All bikes.
You dont get both points and a ban. If your banned thats it but although you dont get any extra points you are still obliged to tell the insurance bastards who will obviously penalise you again.
That's new....I say new as when I got banned it was over 20 years ago....when I got my licence back (paper version) my points were wiped off and I had a "TT10" I'm place of the points...
