Carbon Fibre'holics?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by El Toro, Apr 16, 2018.

  1. Do riders of other brands of motorcycles have the same cravings as Ducati owners to smother their bikes with all things carbon fibre?

Or is this just a Ducati thing?

    Yours sincerely

  2. Good question. A smattering of bling-addicted sports bike riders seem to like a bit of it and KTM have a full range of carbon goodies for the Superduke but now you come to mention it you don't see much of it out and about on bikes. Most people seem to prefer to spend out on performance stuff.

I've gone off it myself. A bit here and there is ok but you can overdo it and when the lacquer starts to fade or discolour your bike looks like its been accessorised with 1950s tweed.

Carbon wheels are a different matter.

  4. Ducati owners are more likely to go down this route, in my opinion.

    Why?
    • A predeliction for form over function? (guilty) o_O
    • More disposable income? Given the premium price of the bikes, this could be true.
    • The higher end Ducati's have a lot of carbon as standard. Owners therefore naturally perceive carbon to be 'better'
    • A lucrative market in aftermarket parts from Ducati Performance and others, marketed at the target demographic well?
It is rather amusing when you see a 19st fella wobbling round on a bike dripping with goodies, mostly carbon, when he could have gained much more by having a salad for lunch. :)

  5. Think you will find Jap enthusiasts prefer anodised alloy, especially purple and gold....the one thing a Ducatisti shares: gold bits

  6. Only because you can’t catch the 19st fella : unamused:

  7. I know. :worried:

  8. More tarts own Ducati's

  10. BMW go in quite heavily for it (supporting the rich-man's-toy view) and Fireblade owners go at it like fat kids in sweet shops (but then they also tend to wear quite technical sportswear when not on the bike too, and complex Elizabeth Duke jewellery).

You can overdo carbon, I used to be vocally against it. Still think it looks naff if overdone but several of my bikes have either OE or DP carbon bits, so I'm learning to keep it zipped.

  11. Painted carbon, that’s the best. Deep red or super-gloss yellow, with hints shining through.

  12. Aprilia owners seem to love CF too IME.

  13. True, I forget about Aprilia constantly.

  14. R1M has plenty of carbon over the standard too. That does indicate 'premium'.

Not a fan of blingy bikes but a little bit of carbon is like an understated bling. Just enough to show expensive taste. Saying all that, I'd have the chrome Norton over their carbon one. The chrome one is a stunner!

  15. Guilty as charged.... Just placed an order 5 minutes ago with Carbon Conquest for FullSix tank cover, frame covers and front fender for my V4... If it ever arrives... But I am a tackle tart :yum
