749 Cataract

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by tater, May 19, 2017.

  1. Seem to have a cloudy headlight lens, the lower lens is cloudy and the upper lens is clear. is this a "feature" or is it something that even needs sorting?

Not sure at the moment if it even affects the amount of light or the throw. would appreciate someone else looking at their 749/999 to shed some light on the matter.

  2. Mines kinda foggy, certainly not clear.

  3. Top is clearer, can almost see the bulb, but the fish eye shape makes everything a bit tricky.

  4. I seem to remember @Bob T who has successfully modified projector lights, reckoned he was able to get rid of that cloudiness in his. Not sure how much disassembly would be involved with a 749/999.

  5. The cloud is always on the inside (rear) of the "bullseye" part of the projector. Never had a 749/999 to play with, but if you can get into the projector through the headlight bulb hole with a soft bit of cloth on a stick, you will find that the cloud wipes off very easily. The light output will be much better afterwards.
If you can dismantle the headlight to get at the projector then the two halves of that projector, front and back, are only held together with either 2 or four screws, depending on model, and you can clean it like that. If you are going down this route then make sure that Ducati have not fitted a shield in the main beam projector as they did on many models, if they did then remove it, one screw, for a better main beam pattern.
The next option would be to change both projectors for what is known as a "bi-xenon projector", £15 from ebay. These are not xenon as they can have standard halogen bulbs in them, but each projector supplies both dip and main beam.
