748 Chain Adjustment/alignment Issue?

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Carey, May 9, 2020.

  1. Thought I'd take the time to check the bike over ready for the lockdown end !
Started up and ticked over fine but in gear it the rear wheel appears to be lurching as if the chain is trying to jump off.
Sprockets and chain are relatively new and were done at a main dealer.
Cleaned/lubed up the chain, checked free-play and swingarm alignment - all good.
Any advice/ideas on what the issue may be most appreciated ?

  2. Guessing you have it in gear on a paddock stand? If so, the lurching and clunking is normal. It’s the result of transmission backlash, a v twin motor, dry clutch etc. If the wheel rotates freely on the stand and chain tension is good, I doubt you have any issues.

  3. Thanks for the reply - Yep, on a paddock stand. I've just not noticed it quite as much before !
Guess I just need to take her out for a ride :)

    Cheers...
