Chain Lube & Rust

  1. i put a new chain on my EX650R a couple of weeks ago, a TSUBAKI £50, nothing fancy, not plated just a bog standard “O” ring chain, so after 2 weeks of use during which time I have kept it well lubed (including liberally spraying the side plates as well as the “O” rings between the plates) I can see light surface corrosion on the side plates, I’m getting the feeling that the Motul chain lube I’m using is offering very little in the way of corrosion protection, any suggestions on a better lube, something more “oily” perhaps!.

  2. Oil

  3. I wouldn't worry too much about the surface corrosion at this time of year as it will happen whatever you do. You could try a chain wax which would possibly stick better to a dry clean chain and slow down any corrosion? Getting the chain dry will be the hard bit.

  4. ACF50 (not to act as the chain lube, just for the side plates)

  5. You only get what you pay for?

  6. Some chain lubes include a corrosion inhibitor, like SDoc100 White and Motul Road (not the race). I have used both to reasonably good effect although I have found the Motul is more readily available in my neck of the woods. Andy

  7. Years ago, I tried out a ScottOiler. I didn't get on with it and haven't used one for years. However, I still use ScottOil to lube chans. I buy it in bulk (5 or 4 litre container) and I find that it works well.

  8. Thanks for the suggestions.

  9. Acf50 grease is perfect for the job :upyeah:

  10. Heavy gear oil?
