Full Throttle Chain Tension On Paddock Stand

  1. Hi,
I'm new to this group, so please be gentle with me.
My first Ducati, a 25 Full Throttle, and my first bike without a centre stand.
I can raise it on a paddock stand or Abba stand, and would prefer to adjust and set the chain tension this way. What should I set the chain distance to so that it equates to that 100mm gap indicated in the owners manual.

  2. I use a bit more slack when adjusting a chain on a paddock stand. Just enough so that it ends how I want it when sat on the bike (ie manufacturer specs). You will get used to how much more slack is needed. Just try a couple times to find your bike’s sweet spot.

  3. I suspect the manual will say it should be set when on the side stand, but might not, I've measured the distance on mine (V4 PP, so different set up) on side stand and on the paddock stand, and there is virtually no difference, won't an Abba stand take all weight off the rear wheel so will give a different measurement.

  4. Thanks Andrew, yes, the owner manual suggests measuring it on the side stand, then adjusting it on a paddock stand.
Or, of course, having it done at a main dealer (!) Probably the Abba stand would'nt be the best. I can use the paddock stand which uses bobbins that connect through the rear axle for the small changes needed.

  5. Set the tension/measurement correctly (i.e. as per manual) on the side stand, then pop it onto your chosen upright stand and measure the slack. When doing it again, use the same stand and same measurement.
