  1. Yup very sad, he always seemed to be a person with beliefs first and politician second. Amazed that he got as far as he did given the fact he seemed to be driven by beliefs rather than party politics.

I seen him quite a few times when he was going in and out of Glasgow Uni, he was rector there for a few years, and I live in the area

  2. yip. sad day for lochaber. was my local M.P. good guy. wasn't easy voting for the opposition this time around

  3. Sad news. One of few politicians who could articulate his political beliefs without rancour. He always struck me as someone who strove to argue positively for the things he believed in rather than rely on the cheap partisan tactics of denigrating his opponents and insulting their supporters. That not only made him a nicer human being than many of his peers but earned him the right to be listened to. Which probably explained why the Lib Dems achieved some of their best electoral successes under his leadership.
I wouldn't have voted for his party myself but it is unfortunate that his time coincided with New Labour's phase of popularity. I can't help thinking he would have made a better deputy PM and more constructive coalition partner than Nick Clegg.

  4. you can measure the respect the BBC have for the man by putting him second to that resigning **** Blatter
