Hi I have been well and truly bitten by the Ducati bug having recently purchased a Multistrada for the road. However I am looking at selling my 2004 Zx10r track/road bike to get some funds for a dedicated track bike. Have been looking at fleabay and auto trader for 749's due to price but have seen HGB advertising a 999 for less than 2.5k as spares or repair, a runner apparently. Not to bothered about cosmetic problems just potential mechanical. Just wondering if anybody knows or has seen the bike as always a struggle with time to get across to look at it.
Looks ok, but I'd like to know more about the 'runs ok'. As Mr C says, that bit could prove very expensive. Matt
Cheers guys for replies. I have to sell the Zx10 first before I get a replacement so at least that will stop me rushing into spending money I haven't got. Would be happy getting a 749 but if a reasonable 999 shows up I could be tempted. Part of the fun is the tinkering in the garage so more than happy to get the spanners out, also lucky enough to have a mate in the bike trade for the stuff I can't do.
If it were straight forward / economic they'd fix it themselves and sell it as decent bike. I bought a bike from them 'sold as seen' when I first got my licence. It soon became apparent why it was sold as seen, I'd give this a miss.
spares or repair????????????????? sod that mate ,walk away (quickly) if it was an inline 4 then maybe
Looks cheap enough for a track bike! A whole engine wouldn't cost that much these days even of it needed one.
If you want it that badly I'd bid them in the nuts but do expect it to go pop. If it does not then you have struck lucky, replacement engines on average go for between £1000-£1300. As a project its worth a gamble
The bike has been stored for 4 years in "not the driest place" and needs some TLC, other than that they say its okay. Jim
Mr C and Jim Cheers, severely tempted and agree that it would be fairly straightforward to drop another lump in if it went pop. I am collecting a wheel for my Zx10r tomorrow so will have to get my finger out and get it finished and sold, had a low side at the Ring just after T13 and dented the front rim. It's a great bike but after years of riding inline 4's I want a twin for the track and to slowly mod on them cold winter nights. The wife would kill me if I squeezed another bike into the garage without getting rid of one. Saying that I could put it in a mates garage without telling her.
If you do get it I would give it a semi strip down just to check the basics, look for rust n shit in the tank cambelt & fluids are a must. I bought a bit of a rough diamond last year and completely stripped it down replacing what needed doing along the way plus facelifting it up to 05> As it happens the engine blew up on mine!! Main bearings went west without any warning so less than 1000 miles after after its rebuild it was stripped again. £1100 got me a later lower mileage engine
Looks good I'm jealous, apart from the riding half the fun's prepping it in the first place.999's look so much better with the road gear ditched.
