  6. Is anything when something is for sale

  7. I Had 'S90 RSV' on my Aprilia RSV1000 and was always on edge thinking it was too easy for plod to spot and remember lol

I did an online valuation about 6 months ago and it came in at about £380, but in fairness it didn't take the relevance to the make vehicle into account etc... I was glad to see it go in truth.

Without trying to piss on anyone's chips, for me personally a less memorable registration plate is a safer bet with plod! :)

  8. Blimey! Are you on the run or something?

Can't say I have ever had to worry about 'plod' and I reckon their cameras have a pretty good memory if you were thinking of doing something daft.

  9. There was a bloke in my class at school who bought identical Kawasaki 650s with his mates. They all had consecutive number plates, as they reckoned that it might be tricky for the Bill to know for sure which one might have done any of the misdemeanours that they no doubt intended to commit.
No cameras back in the 70s.

  10. No I'm not on the run :) but if your out and about and having fun on the bike and happen to pass a police car parked in a lay-by whilst doing slightly more mph than is legal, your more likely to be remembered or recognised if your running a private plate. If someone was crazy enough to speed through a built up area where there are GATSO camera's then they deserve to be clobbered imho, but the sneaky police car hidden away out in the countryside waiting for someone to pass over the speed limit will remember you far easier if you have a private plate. Yeah agreed if they have a camera your screwed either way.

Just ask yourself, why do people buy private plates? In my opinion it's to be seen, and stand out.

I personally want to blend as best as possible when I'm on the bike lol Not draw attention to the bike / me

As I said not trying to piss on your chips just my own personal opinion which in the grand scheme of things means nout anyway lol

  11. Here in South Wales if you have something on the bike that stands out as not being the norm or STD you will eventually get pulled for no other reason, and then they will go through everything with a fine tooth-comb. Plate size, exhaust noise, visor tint etc.... it's just not worth trying to stand out in my experience.

  12. Dvla sell V2 *** plates for £399 all in.

  13. I would have thought that this registration is firstly only relevant to a motorbike and secondly it's not directly referring to a specific make or model of bike so it would be considered fairly generic. Or am I out of my tree?

If it was 'V4 RSV' or 'V2 DUC' etc... it would be far more desirable to enthusiasts and maybe someone with a show bike or something.

  14. Assuming this is a serious comment? it wasn't to Fiona Richmond (the model) was it? as she owned that registration on an E type Jaguar many years ago and it featured in a book of famous registrations. Extract below

"One of the best known ‘rude’ plates to have been issued is FU 2. Billy and Hanna Smart (of the circus family) owned it since the 1970’s. FU 2 was previously owned by notorious impresario, Paul Raymond. His girlfriend, nude model Fiona Richmond, had the plate on her primrose yellow E-type Jaguar. When she split from Raymond, she asked Hanna and Billy to buy the plate for her, hoping that some day she would be able to buy it back. Fortunately for Hanna, she never did."

Not much chance of this on a Duke. Only the stone deaf and the already dead will miss you coming, private plate or not!. The last two times I've been busted the police told me they could hear me coming from miles away. They finished off their brew, went round to the boot of the car, got the speed gun out, scratched their nuts and waited for me to appear a few minutes later!. :D

  16. Good point :)

  17. Thats a very good point and one reason why ive not stuck my normal private plate on my car. My cars reg number isnt an easy one to remember so I figured thats a good thing. Not that i speed or do anything which would require people making a note of my plate.

I do however have private plates on both my R1 and my 996. The 996 happened to come with one and im not convinced its really worth much to sell, so ive kept it on. The one on my R1 is quite a funny but subtle one, along the lines of the FU 2 plate mentioned above.

I did have N13NJA on my ZX6R Ninja at one point. Was "valued" at £800 by one of the number plate selling companies. But after having them try and sell it for about 2 years I just let the retention certificate expire as it only cost me about £350 at the time from DVLA and I was getting sick of paying the yearly retention fee just o have a bit of paper sitting in my drawer. Now adays id probably just have bung it on ebay and taken £100 for it.

  18. I guess as with everything, there's two sides to the story. You either like them or you don't :) There is no right or wrong just personal opinion really.

'one mans meat is another mans poison' etc....

I didn't have my Aprilia long enough to have to pay the yearly retention, how much was that out of interest?

Personally I'd rather turn that cash into a contribution towards petrol or tyres :) Again just my own personal opinion, it's doesn't count for anything in the grand scheme.

  19. I knew someone who had the plate 105 EXY which was slightly but legally altered, at the time, to read 10SEXY. He got stopped so many times in the end he had to get a letter from the police stating it had been measured and checked etc. and was legal and he produced this letter every time he got stopped. Personally it seemed like too much hassle at the time just to stick it out if it was me.

I think low profile is best and for me the lower the better, I would much rather go for stock number plate, clear visor and appear to be riding sensibly with sensible clothing etc. Then I only have to contend with the sound of the exhaust if they stop me!

  20. Paul Raymond bought it in the 60s......
