Hi I'm looking at getting this Gear Indicator below for my monster as I prefer to have one and have had one on my previous bikes. Anyone used this particular one? Does it work ok and my main concern is that is there a notable delay when you change gears or does it register a gear change instantly? Thanks. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/17781875...df92W+hi1QbjyOlbKCrPs/vvGFM=|tkp:BFBM6OzY8qdn
First of all, you can get the same indicator on Ali express for about £14. I use one on my Monster. It works well but there are some drawbacks. It takes about one second after each shift to show the correct gear. It doesn't do neutral. It won't show the correct gear whilst coasting with the clutch pulled in. It may show just a line or it may show a much higher gear. It's very bright, too bright at night. Saying all that, I use it to see if I'm in top as I found myself looking for a seventh or running around in 5th sometimes and it works for me. A bit of darkened transparent tape sorted the brightness. It's best to set it up on a stand like an Abba. It needs to learn every gear which isn't always possible easily to do on the road unless you have a long enough stretch on which you can hold every gear for about 6-10 seconds. You cover quite a bit of ground in the higher gears. Once set up it does a diagnostic sweep every time you turn on the ignition. Only takes a couple of seconds but it doesn't like for that sweep to be interrupted. That is actually the way to reset it back to factory. I took the +12V from the rear light as it's close to the diag port. The kit plugs into that port but needs an extra 12V feed. My lights can't be turned off so the rear light was my choice.
