Chinese parts

  1. I wouldn't trust anything that was "mission critical". Zorts just about but not much else. Pistons? Bearings? Brake parts? Nah.

  2. I can only speak on experience on tingtong levers and rearsets. Both of which have been on my bike for 2+ years, on road and track I tend to ride my bike like I stole it so they have been tested to the extreme! If I recall I paid £35 for the levers and maybe £50 for the rearsets, both are billet alloy and both still look good, nothing has fallen off or snapped. The doom mongers will tell you that you will die if you put anything from China on your Ducati and how you must buy Rizoma/Pazzo etc etc.

  3. What would happen if a clutch pressure plate failed? i know if a spring went its not the end of the world.

  4. In my experience it can be hit or miss, I've had some good stuff and some shit, but bear in mind most stuff sold in this country comes from China in the first place anyway, the only difference is by the time it gets here someones put a 200% mark up on it and we pay for it!. May aswell buy it from source. I don't think I'd trust anything on the mechanical side though.

  5. I bought some adjustable foot pegs from MC Motoparts and they are very good quality and were half the price of the western equivalent but also had some bar ends from them which rattled loose and fell out first time out! Sorry I'm not helping much am I?.

  6. I have worked in China as part of my job for the last 10 years. I have used many great factories and seen a fair few crap ones. In my experience, where you get issues is when a part is developed to a brief and never actually tested for real. The factory is unlikely to have any hands on exprience with bikes or even engines as it will just be a aluminium manufacturer that will not be interested or even understand tolerances or stresses applied in the engine.

In the case of clutch parts, if you are buying direct and not through a UK/EU agent who will offer you some comeback, Its highly likely its never been near a Ducati and never physically tested, An exhaust can for example is less risky. I would IMHO pass on a this....

  7. I would have to agree with the comment about MC Motoparts certainly as far as levers go. I bought a pair from them for under £40 and they are just as good as much dearer items. I have not had much else from them but they do seem to have researched their products better than a lot do. There are some crappy items out there, but you can only try!
