Cleaning Radiators & Oil Coolers - External...

  1. The exterior of the radiator and oil cooler on my ST4 are clogged with road gunk... All muck and yuck embedded between the fins... Has anybody got any tips for cleaning all that stuff out ? ( I'm sure it would run a lot cooler if air could actually pass through the radiator ). Cheers !

  2. Perhaps Astonish Bug Remover and an old tooth brush? Rinse with a hose?

Will take a while but better than jet washing!!

  3. I use a paraffin gun and a compressor to blow water from behind, that works very well.

  4. compressed air, but don't get too close to the fins

  5. i've used alloy wheel cleaner a soft brush and plenty of water to very good efffect in the past, it might take the paint off though if its flaking.

  6. Cheers for the tips guys... And TBH Atilla, there's not much paint left on it anyway !

  7. Did this painful exercise on my 749. Removed rad, soaked in water overnight then used a spark plug gapping tool picked out each speck of crud from each fin, took hours.

in the end got a perfect 2nd hand rad from
    the US so much easier

  8. A trick worth seeing...:)

I use gunk or parraffin applied with a stubbly brush. Then hose it off from the engine side of the radiator. Works okay.

  9. My radiator is pretty well clogged up. I am seriously considering just having it re-cored by the radiator specialists in Plymouth. Maybe not the cheap option, but a whole lot less effort !
